My rant about The Good Guys.

Hey all...

The time came for me to buy my car an alarm, and I didn't go cheap. After three breakins into various cars around my block I knew I needed to get one in order to sleep at night. So I went down to The Good Guys to get myself a nice Clifford (even though compustar is what I really have a jones for) and 370 dollars and a few days later I drop my car off to have it installed. The tech said it would take most of the day, this was at 11am, most of the day means 5-6pm, ok fine with me. I called at 3pm to see how things are going and he has gone to lunch, cool, everyone needs a lunch. I drop by at 5pm to see how far he is, he has a sandwitch on the work bench and he's talking to a friend. I asked why there was no answer when I called and he said he JUST GOT BACK FROM LUNCH, and that he'll call me when done! 2 hours for lunch?! I was pissed at this point. So later in the evening I get the call that my car was ready, this is just after 7pm. So I head up there. I got to The Good Guys and their installation department is closed! I walk in the front and ask where he went and they said he went home! He left MY CAR KEYS with someone that had nothing to do with installation, and left. i took my keys signed my car out so I could go home. On the way home my doors don't lock like they are supposed to, when I start my car, and once home I arm the alarm and I shook knocked and did anything I could to get the alarm to go off...it never went off...turns out I am supposed to program EVERYTHING, alarm sensitivity, when and how the doors lock, whether my car jacking program is on or off....I am fine with doing this, but what really steams me up is nobody told me this. I payed 370 bucks to leave my car with a stranger for 8 hours only to be left doing the crucial part of the work myself...

I'm never doing work with Good Guys again, plus they are gunna get a nasty letter telling them how displeased I am with their service.

And just to note, I could have installed the alarm myself however in order for the warantee and theft protection gauruntee to be activated I had to have it installed by a "professional".

make sure you ask, who, what, where, when, why, how long, and as many other questions as possible when dealing with this kind of stuff. You may badger the person but who the hell cares when you pay that much money for something they should have detailed my car and bought me a beer at least.

I feel ya man.

The worst thing a company needs is a bad reputation. Look at what ATgrills did for me...gave me my money back and said I was gonna get a free grill (month later still no grill )

Hey, just curious, which Clifford alarm did you get? I'm looking at the Concept 400 and would like some opinions.

I got the Buller IV system...their top of the line system, has basically just about everything except remote starter and tint sensor.

Unfortunatly my choice for dealers was limited out here, I got three different places for dealers out here, good guys, al & ed's, and some small place I've never heard of.
Al & Ed's i've dealt with before (for some reason when it comes to having somehting done for my car I get jacked, took them 8 hours to replace a fuse....)
The Good Guys, I've purchased a Television and computer there (actually TV is my mom's and the computer is four years old and was an x-mas present)
Other palce...I generally don't trust little privatly owned businesses....dunno why.

Also going in and bitching and yelling won't get me anywhere. A page long cleverly worded letter sharing my dislike for the service i got, and a kind request that my fees for the install be refunded to me will help to rectify the situation, if not I have them remove the alarm and refund me ALL the money, and I start spreading the word, more then I already am. froma business point I see it as my 370 being lost, and an average of 10 people being told of their poor service, with an average of 100 per purchase, so that could mean about 1000 dollar out of their pocket, as well as the refund of the whole alarm unit and install fees...370. No business would like that, and they will quickly fix the problem...however I'm not gunna demand the refund of the instal right away, I'm going to have them ask me what will help to fix the problem.

If I get a reply saying we are sorry for your inconvenience, go f*ck yourself, then I'll go postal.

hahaha, man we had a local business like that, (I've never heard of the Good Guys) it was called Mr. Audio. They did plenty of installs locally including alarms. Man did they ever suck. A friend of mine had a 700 alarm which included remote starter, remote windows, all that crazy shizznit. About a week after he got it the damn locks broke, the motors broke, he took it back, and they fixed it, then another week goes by and the window motor burned up. He had all sorts of grounds that were shorting out, all kinds of crap, they were horrible and about 3 months ago went out of because that is what sucked ***, their business. Just had to share with u guys. Get it done by a real pro, not some jerk off with nothing more than a liscense to do it.

Good way of going with things, I would try and be as professional and polite as I could and see if they will do anything if not then get more and more aggressive with them until you get to the postal point if all else fails. I had to do this last week with my insurance company and still got screwed over, but thats a whole different ball park, we all get screwed over by the insurance company.

Good Luck man

a well written letter will do wonders. it shows that you are a mature customer and not some jerk. the company will be more likely to refund/fix/etc if you aren't a jerk about it. I'm not saying they don't deserve the jerk treatment, but it gets you nowhere and its not worth it in the end. hopefully you can get your stuff fixed or a refund. good luck.

my friends have had problems like that. for a couple, the letter thing worked, but for those that didn't get anything out of it, it's all about going to the better business bureau and filing a formal complaint against the business. this usually gets things done, and sends out a warning to others about the lack of quality service. i've actually filed a complaint about my own work, (burger king) and about a week later, all the workers got individual discussions on how to deal with customers. then, if the bbb doesn't work, you can go in all screaming and shouting at them, if nothing happens then, um, '"bewm"'
