The REAL lancer is comming
I went to the motor trend car show in baltimore over the weekend and the guy from Mitsubishi said that in late 2003 they are bringing a single turbo AWD 276HP version of the lancer to the US, but its going to be over $35,000.
As far as I know the only Lancer that is coming here is here already. But in like the Oct. time frame of this year Mitsubushi is set to bring over the Evol VII and i think the price tag is going to be around what the WRX is.
It comes out this october, and the US version has 220 hp, and will be priced in the same range as the WRX. That's just what ive been hearing.
Being a Rally fan, I enjoy paying attention to these kinds of things. I've looked at alot of articles and so forth. Most of the magazines agree that this may be what is coming:
The WRX is already here, we know that.
Mitsubishi will be releasing a 260-270 horsepower version of its JDM Lancer Evolution VII, which is a 2.0 Litre Turbocharged 16 Valve 4 Cylinder.
Now, as we know, the WRX only produces 227 horsepower, which is good, but not as good as the EVO7, so Subaru will release its WRX STi (Subaru Technica Internationale or Institute) version of its WRX that will be rated at about 260-270HP, to compete with the EV07.
Things I've read state that the Lancer Evo VII and WRX STi will both be competitively priced at around 28,500 - 31,000 handsomely equipped. This would bring us EXTREMELY close to that magical 300hp mark to which the TRUE rally cars are running. I realize that 300hp doesn't seem like a lot, but in an AWD car, it is a spectacular thing, I assure you.
Neo - Had to throw this one in just for you.

I think ralleyEX is right....they are dropping the horsepower down when they bring the EVO 7 over here.....I saw one at the Chicago auto show yesterday and it was SICK!!!!!! Of course, the steering wheel was still on the right side.
Mokushi - You are correct. Front mounted intercoolers are a no-no here in the US. Don't ask me why.
The WRX gets less Horsepower because of it having a top mounted intercooler. Being right on top of the engine, the intercooler may be closer to the throttle body, but it is also closer to where the heat coming right off the top of the engine is. Increasing the heat around the intercooler decreases its efficiency...
Whereas in japan, the intercooler is mounted way out front in the bumper where it can get that nice, rushing cold air.

I've heard way too many claims so far. So I'll throw in mine: the guy at Chicago Auto Show told me end of this year is when they'll be out and around 30k. Rally is right about the WRX Sti because I have heard that too. They better not be sold out, because I'm going this week to get on the waiting list. In a year I won't be losing too many races,
<< mitsubishi is same sex oriented!!!mitsubishi
i smoked a U.S. OZ rally lancer last night >>
THE EVO 7 AND OZ EDITION AREN'T EVEN THE SAME DAMN CAR!! That Oz ed. is a POS mirage wearing the lancer name.
When an EVO VII hands your 2k1 its ***, ill be laughing

hey dude it doesnt matter how fast your car is even if its a rsx with nitrous and the lancer with nitrous, you would still lose
so basically juss STFU before you talk about smoke somthing cuz you obviously are smoking the wrong ****...
by the way....take sometime into researching ppl.....the evoVII is 276 hp and its around 26000to31000
The JDM EVO VII is 276 hp. However, as discussed previously in this thread, the USDM EVO VII coming some time next year will a little less than that because of the ban of front mounted ic's on production vehicles in the US.
To whomever raced and beat an OZ rally edition Lancer, that's not too much to brag about. That is just the current top trim level for the crappy lancers (They don't even deserve that name) in the US.

Hey guys found out some new info: It's going to be here spring 2003, closer to 250hp because they had to move the front mounted intercooler, and it's going to be starting at under $30000. I know what I'm saving up for now.
<< is it a law or somethign not to have it in the front? (it refering to intercooler) >>
It's because of the U.S crash standards. They're much stricter so it had to be moved so the car would do good in the crash testings.
