anyone ever ship a car?
I'm moving on Friday to British Columbia and rather than drive my car for the over 3500 Mile trek I'm sending it over by train....
has anyone ever done this before? I'm a little nervous about it but thought I would see if anyone else had ever done it.

I used Trucking company to send out the car from WI to CA cost cost me about USD $800. About 2000 miles or so.
Usually $1000, but got some discount , because we had 2nd car to send out.

A couple years ago I had a 95 Supra shipped by rail from Burnaby BC it was around 1700.00.They sent me pics before loading,In the rail car,and unloading. You'll have nothing to worry about unless the train derails..

But that's me... I'd drive it... I just love driving... perhaps too much.

If you get pics of them loading it in, then they know any damage. So if it shows up and you've got those pics, just compare it. I wouldn't worry about it. I drug my car the 600 miles from Indiana to DC behind a Budget truck and made it. Its no different then them shipping a new car. Those car carrier train cars are pretty secure and safe.... just claybar the car shortly after you get it back (train brake dust and rail bits will show up as rust spots in your paint, so get that crap out as soon as you can).
I shipped my civic from NJ to AZ cost was 700.00 open carrier, but my car remained on the truck so no truck swapping. When my car arrived it was filthy inside and out. You should have no probs on a train. I'd def ship it. I wouldn't put 3500 miles on my car, plus it'll work out cheaper to ship. If you figure in hotel stays, gas, food, wear and tear on the car.

it would cost me more to drive it. It'll have to have the timing belt done now if I want to drive it that far....also, the tires are done and not suitable for driving through the snow I'm bound to hit in Saskatchewan...it's awful there....then there's at least 5 or 6 days in hotels and gas and food....shipping was cheaper for sure.
We just got dumped on over here in Alberta too, if you've got to drive through a Canadian winter you're -much- better off shipping it by rail. You run the chance of crashing your car on the way over, and if you have to pass through Alta/Sask. I can more or less guarantee 9/10 that one of the idiot drivers over here will likely nail you

I dont know much about insurance. I just searching for it. If you not fully insure the car (which cost a lot), the other insurances have $500-1000 deductible. So small scraces, dent etc DYS
.I do agree with some people about driving the car for 3500mi. If you dont like to visit places (vacation trip) then the best way is to shipp the car.
