Yep, and it wasnt all that great!!! The Engine coad read R18A1 and the engine bay looked like a van. I drove on the freeway and through some streets and it was hella slow!
I have a 4 puck clutch on my 02 and I had a hard time adjusting back to the stock feeling clutch. Other then all that the interior is designed by nasa and it is hella roomey and very very nice lookin!! But hey this is my two cents sooooo if you have any questions about the new civic just ask... O' the sales man told me the new SI i can test drive in late January or early Febuary!!!

well, coming from a stock 7thgen auto to an '06 civic LX auto, I have to say they are about the same for speed, maybe a tad faster because of the increase of gears and hence smaller gear ratios. Anyway, the 7thgen auto civic where slower IMO than the manuals, so I could see how the manual would be much better.

So you didn't get a chance to open her up? I mean, it sounds like you didn't. The impression that I'm getting is that it has higher fuel economy becuase it is geared differently.

well, you can probably buy them. just not test drive them. they don't want everyone coming in just to test drive it right away. they did the same with the STi when that first came out. every dumb*ss and their friend would be going to the dealership, whether they knew how to drive or not, and want to test it out, just to say that they drove one. It'll be the same deal with the Si.

With the new Civic Honda is slowly becoming Toyota (bland, reliable, more or less un-noteworthy) and Toyota of late is becoming Honda (high revving engines in the Matrix XRS, and Toyota Corolla XRS, plus prev. discontinued Celica GTS).
I can only begin to wonder what the 9th gen. will look like and whether this new R series engine will last as long as the D series did and whether the K will perservere as long as the B series.

R18A1!!! So it seems to me they'r all ready veering away from Type R and heading towards Economy cars

what do you call the K20 then? 197hp and 30mpg. Decent power and economy.
Remember the the type-r's never used a D series engine. It was a B16 in the 6th gen and a K20 in the 7th gen. so the conclusion is, the type-r's never used the same engine as the other civics. so you cant really say honda is veering away from the type-r becuase the R series engine exist. Just like you cant say honda veered away from the 7th type-r becuase the D series exist, becuase they didnt.

I was also very disappointed and would not drive it again. 7thgen feels completely different. I didn't realize how slow the 8thgen auto is until i drove it, and the tranny is mushy. The si is gonna make or break honda, cause even for the casual honda lover, the base models just aren't up to par. Oh ya good job copying audi taillights.

im not sure where the 5speed auto came from, but it might be from the 7th gen from thailand, the civic 2.0. that car had a sluggish 5 speed. even with 160hp and 5 speed auto, it wasnt much faster than the 4speed 127hp civics in terms of accerlation from 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.
