$100 bucks for this.......

Alright,

So I broke one of the studs on my front wheel hub assy. Of course I had to take it to a shop so they could use a press to remove the hub assy. Anyway, I trust the guy who did the work, cause he has helped me in the past. But, this time, when he typed up the invoice he used a new program that has a precalculated time for different jobs. He chose "Front wheel hub assy replacement" @ 1.8 hrs. and reduced it to 1.5 hrs. He actually only worked on it for about 1 hr. Anyway it cost me $100. Wait there's more...

Two hrs later he calls me at home to tell me he found a safety pin that keeps a nut on part of the assy. Then he tells me make sure the nut is tightened and to come get the pin. I check the nut and it is motherf****n loose, real loose!

If he hadn't noticed that pin when he was cleaning up, I would have been driving in LA rush hour traffic and probably died!

that job is a pain in the *** if you do it the right way and use a press. I have done it myself honda also recommends using a new bearing...35.00
100.00 sounds about right. If he took a slide hammer and popped the ub off then 40 bux would cover it. Too bad he did not tighten up the lower ball joint very scary.

actually $100 is around the average price to get it done. Some shops are cheaper though. think about it, shops charge based on what a flat rate manaul says on how long that job takes. That is most shops, but some charge based on the job and dont go by what the manaul says. And removing the front hub assembly, pressing the hub out of the knuckle, pressing out and in a new stud, pressing the hub back in the knuckle and putting it back on the car isnt a cheap job. A very experience tech could probably do it in 30 minutes like the one who did mine, but you are going to pay what the manaul says it cost for that job. the flat rate manaul shows the labor for that job. I wouldnt be suprised if it was a 1.0-1.5 hr job. At $75-$95 an hour, it is about a $100 job, give or take $25. this is how shops make money. And techs make money.

Now I paid $75 to get mine done. thats because I had a brake shop do it and I knew the people really well and they charge by the job, not what a manaul says.

As for the cotter pin, **** happens. It sucks and I would be pissed too, but I would recommend to not go back to that shop anymore.
