The new facia is supoose to represent the parent company of subaru's plane make heritage.

The center grill being the fuselodge and the side vents the wings.

They need low-end torque to have the car slide into corners as they please be it on gravel, asphalt or mud. I know they have an air restrictor into the intake manifold, but they can compress that air as they please. It's pretty darn impressive to have 500lb/ft of torque at 2-3k rpm from a 2.0L engine.

Also they're significantly lighter than the STi (if such a comparison can be made between a wrc car and its counterpart), so 300bhp isn't all that bad considering they rarely spend more than a few fractions of a second going straight...

no matter who you are 300hp is still ALOT!
look we all have cars with 115, 130, or 160. So we KNOW for a fact that yes 300 is alot for a car. yeah its a race car but 300 makes a car move pretty fast.

I was just looking at the web sites of the different cars and three of them had exactly 300bhp, just thought it was a weird coincidence.

What I like about these race cars is that form always seems to follow function (at least to me). I believe that the wing helps landings somehow, as these cars have this tendancy of lifting off the ground, especially at the speeds they're going at.

I believe it is also to increase rigidity of the wing because they could easily be hit by tree branches and the like. Also it keeps the car stable at good speed, of course, but differently from how street cars/track cars are.

I really like the look of that car, but what I don't like is that someone will tack that on to their car thinking that it is just as good...

I always thought that rally cars only got a little bit of air when they jumped, but then I watched some videos and looked at some pictures. I saw a pic in the desert where a car was damn near 5 feet in the air. And they jump far, I was watching a video and this sti jumped like at least 30 feet. So, I guess that wing stabilizes them during flight like theagent was saying. Think about how much force the air excerts on a car moving at high speed, like holding your hand out the window at 90 or even more. If the car is going really fast and is not connected to the ground.....well you get the point

When the car hits 4wheel air, the wing helps the back wheels land before the front wheels.

I dont know if this was addressed yet or not but the 300 bhp power restriction was made in the 80's I think due to cars getting a way too much power for a driver to handle. I think it came as a safety measure after a string of driver deaths and deaths to observers on the sidelines due to out of control cars.

So the best in the world rally drivers can't handle more than 300bhp on unknown roads? I've long considered my 115hp engine more than sufficient for my daily needs, and I'm nowhere close to a professional driver, and this after experiencing with the car when it was getting out of control untill it was completely out of control. It is so easy to f*ck up with any car.

They DO sell 500+ hp stock cars, however, but I think it's for a different purpose.

yeah in this case 300hp with AWD and nice tires is sufficient.
lets consider the cars have very little weight, lots of hp and good torque, and the driver has not driven on the road before. A seasoned driver maybe has done it 4 or 5 times before but 4 times across 4 years on a road is not even close to sufficient to be comfortable. its alot of trust and skill with the driver and co-driver. its good they arent getting too much more power now cause it would be suicidal.

Yeah the torque on all the cars is like 400-450 ft/lbs.
I remember in gt3 the fastest car was the escudo rally car LOL, anybody remember that.

I love WRC, that STi is sweet! I just think that Subaru should've held off on the Tribeca until the new Wrx's/STi's came out cause everyone relates the new grill to that IMO...

Another note on the 300 bhp rule is that it is kind of like the restrictor plates in nascar. Where it makes it more of a drivers race and not who can make the most ungodly fast car.
