Domestics vs Imports

"Us" would be Domestics and "Them" is the Imports.

Us: Stickers for contingency.
Them: Stickers for horsepower.

Us: Boost gauge on a blown car, nitrous gauge on a squeezed car.
Them: Both gauges on a normally aspirated car.

Us: 500 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm
Them: 50 lb-ft of tourque at 35,000rpm

Us: Headers and 3" exhaust
Them: Stock pea shooter exhast pipe w/ 5" tip.

Us: Showing off a 500 hp dyno sheet.
Them: Boasting that their 150 hp mill makes more hp / liter.

Us: Installing subframe connectors to stiffen the chassis.
Them: Connecting the subframes w/ neon lights.

Us: Spending $2,000.00 to get a new Z28 in the 11's.
Them: Spending $10,000.00 to get a Civic into the 12's.

Us: Keeping a low profile and letting e.t.'s tell the story.
Them: Hoping the outragous body kit will distract anyone from discussing e.t.'s.

Us: Installing a 12 point cage after breaking into the 11's.
Them: Installing a 12 point cage for more places to mount gauges.

Us: Feeling the car shake from a lumpy cam.
Them: Feeling the car shake from booming bass.

Us: Comfy stock bucket seats on a 9 second street car.
Them: Back breaking fiberglass racing buckets on a 17 second street car.

Us: Sideways in 3rd gear.
Them: Sideways to avoid high centering on a speed bump.

Us: Cruising and burnout contest at car shows.
Them: Dancing and stereo competitions at car shows.

Us: 600hp makes for an earth shaking street car.
Them: 600 watts per channel makes for an ear shattering street car.

Us: Buying an aftermarket shifter for shorter throws.
Them: Buying an aftermarket shifter for the lighted ****.

The one that is totally true is this one:

<< Us: Spending $2,000.00 to get a new Z28 in the 11's.
Them: Spending $10,000.00 to get a Civic into the 12's.
>>

You're right, American cars do kick ***. However, certain imports are worth mentioning. Supra, RX-7, Lancer Evo, Skyline, just to name a couple. I happen to admire imports for their superior craftsmanship (when not made in the US) and for their fine tuning. Although recently American cars have begun to catch up in that department. I haven't ragged on domestics before, but I haven't ragged on imports either. Both have their good and their bad points. If my dad would have let me I would have gotten a '65 Mustang project car instead of my 2001 Honda Civic Coupe. However, my dad was afraid that it would break down a lot and that I would have a hard time getting it to work properly. 2001 Honda Civic was the best car for the money and that's that.

Some people like to fix the car for it's looks rather than performance.

<< Spending $10,000.00 to get a Civic into the 12's. >>

I would rather do that than

<< Spending $2,000.00 to get a new Z28 in the 11's >>

. Having a cheap car with running 12s, you'll get respect. Other than that, this is just my opinion.

Every car has its inheirent abilities, a cavalier(domestic) is just as capable as our civics for the most part, a civic is not a camaro by any stretch, a new z28 costs like 24000 for a base model. a civ ex is like 16500 base, so you cant expect the same performance results.......... i have both import and domestics. youre comparing two completely different animals here. if you wanna compare a compact domestic vs a compact import, thats fair. i respect the tuning involved in imports and domestic cars, cause i enjoy both. it is true that domestics do tend to mave more radical cosmetics, but muscle cars have their heritage and there own styling ad ons, but tend to be more bland overall......................Domestics and imports are both great!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just different

Tell that to the DOZENS of 15YO+ Fox Body Rustangs I see around here on a DAILY basis. (99% of which can outrun 99% of all Civic's (regardless of age) on the road.

Funny post BTW.

It's amazing the amount of ignorance towards other cars that people have.

Domestic = Bad build quality
Domestics = 10 MPG

Why do people believe this stuff.

Heres an example that blows this myth out of the water. The Z06. 405 HP, 12's in the 1/4, Very Nice Interior, 30 MPG

Or

The new Dodge Turbo. If this comes out it will be yet another domestic to defeat this belief that Domestic = Crap.

Some Domestics are cool and some suck the same goes for Imports. There is no extra step that Imports go through at the factory that makes them better.

By the way, how many of you currently are in your first car?

yeah we can spend 10g to get our imports down to the 11's or 12's, but most of our cars cost about 12-17 grand to buy stock. and getting over 300hp from a 4banger? thats pretty damn good. you may say we need the turbo or the nitrous to beat you, but in another way maybe u need the extra 4 cylinders to beat us... plus u say all these great muscle cars are fast and america is the best as far as cars, but dude, what about all the crappy american cars that are out there too? you say your z28 is amazing but that a chevy cavaleir sucks when it comes to racing, and we say a civic sucks when it comes to racing, but we also have our supras and our rx-7's. and youre making fun of people who are ridiculous and display type-r stickers on their cars and stuff, but ive seen domestics just as bad. a kid at my school has a mustang gt from like 98 and he tries to pass it off as a saleen just becuase he put on a sticker and a bodykit, but its still just a mustang gt with an exhaust and intake...does anyone know what im getting at?

Domestics cost like $24-26,000 like someone said earlier. Civics cost like $15,000. So they say it takes $10,000 to get a Civic in the 12's and it takes $2,000 to get a domestic in the 11's. Well if you add the extra $10,000 to the $15,000 you get a $25,000 which just about equals the price of a dam domestic. Then you have to pay an extra $2,000 to get a domestic in the 11's which will make it to be around...um.... like $28,000 or $29,000 depending on what you get. I don't know it seems to me you save more money with a Civic and its only a second slower, not a big difference to me, but hey its my opinion, so what do I know.

I dont think you are really getting the point though. Its not that imports suck and domestics rocks, it is just this simple fact: If your going to build a race car, build a race car. A hond civic pimped out with 10k mods is nothing compared to a domestic race car. This also is not saying that there are not good fast twin turbo imports. It is just saying for the money that has to be put into getting a car to go fast, nothing beats cheap displacement. Also, DaPipeLayer, you dont buy a new domestic to race, you buy old ones without computers. You know the ones that use 650cc carbs? Yeah...a car like that cost around 2k running, 500$ for the body. Then you add 2k worth of mods and bam, your in the 12's. If you were to take a 2k civic or a 500$ body, you would find it hard to hit the 12's with 2k. Anyway, all cars are awsome, domestic and imports. They are faster than bikes! (an no not the ones with motors....)

i have driven north american cars my whole life. i dis-like them. my parents recently listened to me and just bought a prelude and a sentra. no problems at all. and everyone i know has civics that last with 300,000km's with not too many issues. my parents V6 north american cars all pretty much died out at 200,00km's and started with problems at 100,000kms. i cant wait to get my civic just to make it look good.. no nos, or mods to the engine... just body and sound!

hahaha and lets not forget the infamous civic (streetable) vs viper street race where the ah, civic wins. i just think thats funny cuase the most that civics worth it about 25,000 and that viper was worth what, 80 or 90 grand or whatever. i woulda love to have been driving that civic for that race, that musta felt so damn good. the viper had an extra 8 cylinders on him and lost, just goes to show though that neither type of car is better, but i just thought that was the best race ive seen.

That would be 6 cylinders more (V10)
To be fair that car was more of a shell than car. Slap a ultra boosted GSR engine in the bay though and you got yourself a street racer to be reckoned with.

You should check out the new project that guy is workin on. It's supposed to be even faster.
