FOLLOW-UP to "IF HONDA/ACURA did not exist": Why the Civic instead of those other cars?
Hey, thanks for your responses to that previous poll "If Honda and Acura did not exist, which car would you have bought?". The most popular responses were (in no order) :
- WRX
- Altima
- Celica
- Lancer
- Golf GTI
One thing about all these cars is that they are all more expensive than the Civic (with equivalent options).
So now some interesting follow-up questions:
1) What made you guys decide on the Civic instead of those other cars you all listed?
2) Knowing what you know now about your car, any regrets about buying the Civic instead of those other cars?
Personally for me, it was the Honda reputation and the looks of our cars. And no regrets ...

To tell you the truth, I DO have regrets about buying my Civic. I wish I would've bought something else but at the time I was shopping for a car, I did not know that much about the "racing scene." So I just bought this Civic. If I knew what I know now, I would've bought something else. From the list above I would've bought WRX or GTI, but of course, they are a bit more expensive than the Civic. But around the same price range of the Civic, I would've bought a Spec V. I got to ride in one today and they are amazing!
I would love to have one of them! They have awesome seats, awesome shifter, gauges, speakers, rims, they look really nice, the headlights are nice, I just don't like the rear tail lights that much but I can deal with that. I wish I would've bought a Spec V. But at the time I bought my Civic, the Spec V was unavailable so I wish I would've at least bought a manual. But oh well, life goes on. Civic isn't that bad...

that doesnt answer either question at all
in case you missed it, the questions were:
1) What made you guys decide on the Civic instead of those other cars you all listed?

Reliability. I picked '96 300zx TT but i didn't want to buy used, so i bought a cheap, reliable new car. what do i regret? I was too impatient and i should have waited for the new si to come out.

your right, i dint bother to read the actual post. I got my civic because at the time (this was back in jan of 2000) the Si was the best bang for the buck available in the new car market. Plus the fact that I needed something with a low insurance rate and good MPG as well as tunability which is why i didnt opt for a Z28 or some such thing. If i was to buy a car right NOW for the same ammount of money (and since apparently, this isnt supposing that honda didnt exist) I think id buy a 92 civic hatch and do a motor swap with a custom turbo kit, suspension and the works (17K can buy u a lot of car if your biulding a hybrid). I DONT like about my current car (in stock form) is the lack of low end torque and the cup holders.

I bought my civic because it was affordable, looked nice, and gets great mpg. there are times I'm driving and I think to myself "shoulda got that car" but then, I bet they're thinking "wow that's a nice car, shoulda got that"
