Need advice on racing!!!

Hey I need some advice, I have a 5 sp EX and I am not used to the front wheel drive or a honda and when I race I keep breakin the front tires loose from first to second. I was hoping if you guys could help. Should i ease up on the gas after i shift into second or should I shift from first to second sooner. Any help would be appreciated.

That's okay, I doubt it is anything more than a quick chirp (unless you are on ice). People are afraid of wheelspin, but it can be your friend. In a motor that makes HP in high RPMs, you are better off getting those RPMs up there and getting some wheelspin than you would be if you avoided the spin. Don't let up on the gas if you are racing.

DxMan is right
learn to speed shift but u have to be fast shifting and lettin off of the clutch or else u CAN (not always but posible) grind gears
but it seems to be alittle quicker if u speed shift

wheel spin of any sort DOES slow you down. hence the addage "if your spinning you aint winning". The fact of the matter is, if your talking about a little chirp of the tires from the 1-2 shift, its not a problem. This is normal especially in FWD (actually 1 wheel drive since the civic doesnt have an LSD) when shifting agressivly due to the lack of traction through weight shift (weight shifts to the rear taking it off the front drive tire[s] ), and crummy tires. Anyway, it doesnt matter, forget about it.

....now when i light up the tires THROUGH 2nd and 3rd cause of the N20, thats a different story...
