black smoke from exhaust?
I've always heard that vtec engines give a puff of black smoke when WOT...I haven't ever noticed it with my car though..I think it has something to do with vtec burning a little oil. Not sure though

Its usually a sign of the car running rich as a precaution to keep it from blowing up. You'll see lots of evos with blackened bumpers because they throw more gas in than they need to to keep it from running lean under high boost.

i know that when your low on oil then you will make some black smoke, and can anyone tell me what WOT means? im so lost. anyway, when you redline too much the oil gets eaten up and black smoke rolls out when you don't have enough in the pan.

and not enough oil in the pan has nothing to do with any smoke coming from the engine.

as people have said. black smoke is carbon deposits and/or signs of running a bit rich. (which many higher rpm cars or turbo cars are designed to do to prevent detonation)
white smoke is from coolant (i was wrong before)
and blue-ish gray smoke is oil.

I doubt its going to change. I mean ivea already seen some civics with whitish blue smoke, because peopled didnt take care. So maybe not with them all at like 90000 miles no, but probably when you get up there it will start happining. ULEV just means ultra low emmsions vehicle doesnt mean its not subject to the wear and tear of a normal vehicle.
