pasadena honda in california is trying to tell me that the backfire my car has is cause by the spark plugs. i called a couple different honda mechanics, and they all say that they've never heard of a spark plug causing a backfire.

the car backfires, usually between 1500 and 3000 rpm when accelerating as if i were getting on the freeway or attempting to pass another car. anybody have any idea what could actually be causing this?

i'm running 87 octane. i've had these plugs in for 6 months and it only started happening in the past 2-3 months.

they ran the car on some machine they have, that said cylinders 1 and 3 were misfiring. i'm going to take the car into another shop for another opinion and replace the plugs i have with some new ngk plugs and see if it makes any difference. i hate this car and i hate the fact that the dealerships can't fix any of the problems it has.

it could be your wires or the ignition pack on each cylinder. or the connections might be loose. or oil has gotten on the plug making it foul. many things. check everything. start by taking out each spark plug and inspecting it. then inspect the ignition packs to make sure nothing is loose. then check each spark plug wire. then check the main distributor that sends the current to each ignition pack. then tell me how it went. what kind of car is it?
