depends what kind of driving you're gonna do...if you're doing lots of city driving and have the extra thousand bucks, then get the auto....if you go to the track a lot and are serious about racing cars...then get the 5 speed
Go with the stick. My 2k1 was my first manual, and it didnt take me that long to learn. You will look like an *** once you drive off the lot but you will learn within the next couple of hours of driving. Do it. Do it.
All I can say is Auto suck too boring to drive and for lazy people.
Manual Rule fun to drive and your in control
It's always fun when your in control if you know what I mean

nope...get the manual...easy to learn..just look at the tach all the time and make sure from standstill that the tach is somewhere from 1500 - 2000 rpm and release the clutch slowly..you'll learn in about an hour or so...or before you get the car you want, test drive another manual and learn it that way
I've driven an automatic for the last 17 years. When I got married my wife had a manual so I learned on hers and drove her manual on the weekends. My 2k1 EX is a manual and I really like it much better than an automatic. Compared to a lot of cars the shifting is awesome, the car is light and the body is small so I think it is easier to learn using a stick on this car.
It is a pain learning a stick at first but once you get it down I think you'll be pleased at the extra control you have of the car (especially if you drive in any bad weather such as snow). Since stock Civic's aren't speed demons you also get the bonus of reving the engine higher for better speed. And last but not least I feel cooler driving a manual even if I'm not really going that much faster. My $.02.

Go with the stick, it was my first manual transmission too. They are so damn smooth, compared to other manufacturer's manuals. Way cooler and funner to drive. Oh and don't worry about giving it a little abuse while you're learning, they're bulletproof -it can take it.

woo hoooo

yeh driving this auto rental is killin me
I think u should go with an auto. I'm the only one who says this because, i'm like one of the only one who has an auto. I've beat a lot of sticks racing. Ex's Lx's and other kinds of cars. I don't think it matters if it's manual or auto, it's the better driver. Just study and learn your car. Auto is also better in traffic.
I didn't know how to drive stick when i got my civic but it didn't take long to learn. I think in the long run it was the best decision for me. Auto is just too boring now
I cant imagine a person doesn't know how to drive a manual and coming to a dealer and asking for a test drive. Then the sales person realized you doesn't know how to drive a stick. Well when I buy my car the sales peson ask me. Do you know how to drive a stick? I said I tried once. Well he didn't know I was driving stick since I was 14. I learn how to drive an Auto when I was 18 years old so Im now 24 I drive manual for almost 10 years now. Well at first the sales person doesn't want, to give me the key he wants to make sure I know how to drive a stick. Well I said try me. Well I blasted the engine way up to the redline and shift to 2nd gear and blasted up to 5000 . Then 3rd and so on. and I told the sales person what do you think I know to drive a stick or not? And before he answer he was kinda in the state of shock hehehe. So he said in mumbling voice yeah you do.
stick baby...
10 reasons...
1)more control over the car
2)cheaper from the start
3)cheaper to fix
4)cheaper as far as gas (better gas economy)
5)FUN FUN FUN
6)you never know when the time comes when you'll HAVE to drive a stick, so it's nice to know
7)FUN
8)the Civic is the crispest shifting car i've ever driven (which is a lot)
9)don't get bored when you're driving
10)did I mention it's FUN AS HELL?!!
automatic

1)for lazy ppl that don't give a crap about driving

i had no choice but to get an auto my dad wouldnt let me get an manual. he kept on sayin that it'll be expensive replacin the clutch, you'll get worst gas milage than an auto, and it'll take a while to learn.. im sorry but you'll spend less fryin the clutch and replacing it, than getting an auto.. gas milage, everyone with an manual always gets better than auto, and my friend took me out to teach me how to drive a stick.. took me about an hour or so.. but my dad is stubborn so he wouldnt let me get a manual BOOOOOOOO!!!!
so im thinkin when i move out of my house (2 years maybe?) im ganna have it switched to a manual. or if i can, have those auto/manual things. those are great. if im too lazy or tired to shift, just pop that baby into auto

manual is NOT the only way to go. I drive an auto and quite enjoy it.
Anyways dood - if you're shopping for racing... my bet is in 6 months you'll be on this board moaning about how slow your civic is. Please do some reasearch into what you actually want to buy before actually buying it. As long as you know what you're getting, it won't disappoint.
