Rep Power: 0 You can use 5w30 if its warm out......5w20 is recommended and not avail in synthetic yet (that I know of)
Valvoline, Mobil, Pennzoil, and others make it in 5w20.....

Rep Power: 0 You mean warm like Cali weather? I was thinking synthetic, and since you just said tht a 5w-30 would be ok if it's warm out, I may as well go syn with a 5w-30. By the way, is it ok to go synthetic on the first change?

Rep Power: 0 Changing to syn. early is heavily debated. My best advice - change it often with good quality oil and filter.
IMO- first oil change is too soon.

Rep Power: 0 The quick answer is:
5w-20
The long answer is:
read your manual P. 210
The numbers indicate weight of the oil. There used to be single weight oil.
The higher the number, the higher the viscosity and the thicker the oil.
While the 5 weight oil flows like cooking oil (thin), the 50 weight oil flows like cooled down lava (thick).
Lower weight oil will speed up oil flow at startup and minimized startup wear but will not provide enough protection when parts are under load.
Higher weight oil, being thicker, giving higher internal friction when coupled with near freezing battery will give you difficulty startup. (In the old days ppl use a lighter weight oil in winetr to aid startup.)
To accomodate both scenario, additives were added to lower the viscosity of a relatively thick base stock oil. We now see 5w-20, 5w-30, 5w-50 etc ...
The letter "w" in "5w-20" means winter.
An oil denoted 5w-20 means it flows like a #5 when cold (startup) and #20 when hot (engine warmed up).
An lighter weight oil is going to reduce internal friction and save you fuel.
