This might sound stupid but what is D3 for on an automatic? When do you use this? I heard it was really bad to take off in D3 and especially switch to it when you going fast. I just read a forum where the dude said he was racing and it was all over once he put it into D3.

Rep Power: 0 Its okay to drive around with it in town, as long as you are going under 40MPH.
I usually don't use D3 unless if I'm passing someone, and I need some extra power...
You're manual should have all the info you need dude, I found the 40MPH thing in there...

Rep Power: 0 If you are going too fast, it won't downshift anyways. Anytime you downshift with an auto, you should be in the throttle - not for slowing down.

Rep Power: 0 If you are in stop-n-go traffic, putting it into D3 will prevent gear hunt between 3 and 4. The Grade Logic works pretty well on Hondas most of the time, but if you are going down a steep hill you may want to force it into D3 for extra engine braking. You could use your brakes but if it's used for extended periods, too much heat might build and reduce the effectiveness of your brakes should there be a necessary emergency maneuver at the bottom of the hill.
And "2" on our autos starts the car in gear 2 -- do this to reduce the chance of slipping on low traction areas (like snow/ice/mud).
