Audio deck got drenched in Sprite!
Audio deck got drenched in Sprite!
My friend and I were taking shots of Candian Mist and chasing them with a 2 liter bottle of Sprite and when I was chasing my shot he hit the bottle and Sprite got on me. I didn't say a word and just pretended that it didn't happen. So when he chased his shot, I hit the bottle up even more and he got completely drenched all over his face and shirt. A split second after that he grabbed the bottle and out of instinct he sprayed it all over my dash and mainly my stock audio deck
. Now when ever I turn the stereo on, all you hear is one loud tone of deep bass (I have two 12" subs) even if the volume is all the way down.
Now I need to find out how to remove my deck to put in my old cassette deck and use a CD walkman to play CDs. Can somebody tell me how to do this?

Eh.... I can probably fix that deck. You have to wash it out with hot water and dry it for 24 hours. An air compressor helps there. Everything BUT the CD drive. That has to be done seperately. Sprite is conductive, that's why it acts up. I've done it before, no biggie.
Thanks but I still need to find out how to remove the damn thing. I know there is a DIY but thats for an automatic. So then I tried to remove the entire console but I stripped a screw severely and now I'm "screwed". I stripped the arm rest hinge's screw. Is there still hope? Can I still remove the deck?

If you can take the deck out, and then take it apart, remove the cd mechanism. It's held on by only a few screws and then unplugs. Then wash out the radio with water. You need water because soda has a lot of sugar and water will disolve it easely. Use a small brush to get everything clean. Then blow it out with canned air or best an aircompressor. Let it dry in the sun for a day. Put the CD drive back in and test it. It should work fine.
You may have to take apart the face plate to clean behind it as well. You can use warm water with a few drops of dishwashing soap to brush everything off. Rinse well. Remember that water won't hurt electronics if: A) It doesn't sit on parts for days, and B) you make sure everything is completely dry before you plug it back in.
The exceptions are speakers and VU meters or analog meters of any kind. Those must be removed before washing.
It is not uncommon to wash circuit boards. Don't be afraid to do it as long as you are careful to let it properly dry.

Now I'm not 100% on this, but it seems like there are still some clips holding it down. I haven't ever taken the console apart, but everything else on the car is held on by clips so its the logical choice for me. Maybe try prying at the attached part a tad more.
Ok, I finally got to my deck but now I need to remove the CD mechanism out but I don't know how, I'm stupid. There's some screws in there that aren't magnetic and I'm afraid I'll lose them. Please tell me how. Here's what I got done so far.

OK, you have the newer deck. All you need to do is take out the 2 screws in the front of the mechanism and 2 in the rear. You'll see them on the bottom of the mechanism when you look from the top. 4 screws in all. Then the entire cd block just pops up. There is one connector on the right when viewed from the front. It's hidden underneath and holds on to the cd block. Just lift straight up.

Then take the face off and clean the buttons. Use some dishwashing detergent and water to disolve the sprite. Anyway, you learned something new.
