Honda has played with us and in what way!!!
When you look at a 7th generation civic, it's a great car and the looks are awesome, you know, but the motor sucks!! If they were going to upgrade totally after the 6th gen why dont put more power into the 7th gen; I'm not asking for 100HP more but 145-160hp would have fitted well. Why they put a plastic intake manifold, what is that???
, then the economy vtec, its ok for the hx, but for the ones that love speed no. Now they introduce the kool and attractive 2006 Si, they knew that after we bought the 7th gen we wanted more and some of us were very disapointed, so they waited and knew we will get those Si's. What ya'll think bout this
i think we dont use a platic intake manifold, its non-realistic to think they would do those numbers in 2001, and of course the ex gets economy vtec, if you want speed inspired vtec get an rsx-s but for real vtec get a s2k or nsx...... seems like you want more for less lol we all do though
Well I have to chime in on this one but first of all why would Honda put more power into a car they are trying to make cheaper and more economical. I agree 100%ncirom2003 with the RSX, NSX remark........if you wanted speed and power you should not have bought a Civic................face it the normal run of the mill Civic will never be a sports car....it will never have alot of power just for the sheer fact that it is a Civic!

well, if you are using the 06 Si as an comparison, the least u could do is use the 7thgen Si too.
and if you look at it, it isn't that hard to make the 7thgen Si from 160 to 200hp since they are using the same engine block.

I think the D series was kept becuase it was a matured engine and it was optimized as much as possible for what the civic was meant to do: a commuter car. as the next gen is to come out, its being promoted as a premium compact sedan, so stuffing 200hp under it isnt that big of a deal.

the civic is an economy car, not a sports car. for a sports car that is a honda, look at the rsx, civic si (supposed to fall in that category), tsx, tl, and the other sports sedans.

When I bought the car in 2001 I looked at the ecoconmic mpg, reliability, long lasting. It wasn't until last year when I seperated from the wife did I dive into thinking I can make this look good and go fast. I got the look but not the speed.

You also have to keep in mind there has been a change in leadership at honda since 2001. The 8th gen si is CEO Fukui's first car under his leadership, you can tell he's takin the company in a completely different directon then the previous CEO for economy cars.
Cars like everything else that uses technology get better over time. You can't really complain, that's just the nature of technology. Its like buying a $2000 computer then 6months later you can buy a computer thats twice as fast for $2000.

Do you people realize the non-Si civic was NEVER meant to be fast? Its meant to get over 30 mpg and comfortably. Thats it. It was never designed to be fast!

Plus about the horsepower;
The civic consistantly has worst-in-class, or close to it, horsepower and still out sells all the other cars. Its a well built, economical, car. Its not fast, but Its some fun to drive. It isnt very luxurious, but its very well priced and the interior is by no means cheap or poor quality. Its just not made to get people anywhere quickly.

Go out and get a Cobalt , Focus or Mazda3 - then you can get 29 -32 mpg. Honda has always engineered the Civic to be at the top or near the top on its class in fuel mileage.

blah blah blah. this is old news from like 2001. I thought everyone knew this already. Why the hell did you buy a civic then? Since when in it's history was it a powerhouse (SI versions excluded)? Didn't you test drive your car when you bought it? So what if older civic's respond better to mods, i'm pretty sure we're still faster. That means less money to get to the same HP.

you have to make your civic fast. It doesn't come like that from the factory. I think someone's been watching too much fast and the furious.

I don't know if you guys have noticed the shift in Honda's thinking over the years. It went from small and sporty to midsize and green. Honda's have been growing and most of the cars they sell are now classified as mid-sizers. All of their vehicles have some of the greenest emmissions in their class, partly because of the Hybrid models and partly because the power-output is fairly low.
7th gens will just be oddballs of the Honda engine family because like other engines Honda has made, they will be outdated really quickly and replaced by better, smoother engines. It's not a bad thing by any means, it just means that Honda as a company has a target and is running with it. Back when they designed the D17, not that many engines had that much power over it. Even the main competition, the Corolla was still running with the last gen engine before it was switched to a DOHC one.
Anyway, just like any other car, especially popular ones, Honda will replace/modify their vehicle to make it up to par/offer different things the competition doesn't have/ offer a different package for a great price. Honda always does it that way. It is merely the way a car cycle is.

you guys got ideas from the movies and think a civic is fast. Maybe next time look at the sticker that says HP and compare. Or plan on spending another 3-5k for a turbo.
