Well, it just shows that Honda engines aren't that strong to start off with in their most popular cars.

no not really.

v6. auto. restrictive exhaust system.

the drivetrain kills whatever wheel horsepower it can put out.

similiar engine in current generation configuration.. 3.0 V6, extra tunning, throws out 240 hp and mated with 6spd manual tranny in the new Accord Coupe, check the numbers for those, not too bad. (I'm going to guess that it'll be around 190 ish WHP)

ya know, I am SO tired of hearing pplz bitch about how our cars put out so little hp w/ i/h/e... my god, most cars get just as little gain as ours do... you just need to stop comparing our econo boxes to sports cars!!!!!!!!!!!! our cars get 30+ mpg, where as good sports car maby gets 12+ mpg... most cars only see maby 25+ hp from i/h/e so QUIT BITCHING, if you want hp, then build your motor and put boost, if you dont have the $$$ than just **** it and be happy w/ a car that for the most part looks better than most cars right off the asembely(sp?) line!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it's just that Honda nad many other coompanies already tune the hell out of their engines and really optimize A/F mixture for their setup. When you start changing the airflow, you need to change the way the computer manages your engine in today's systems. It's not just imports either. The new 05 Stang needs an reflash to get any power fro, it too. Same with the Neon SRT-4 too.

no, honda engines aren't as powerful as other companies...but check out the mpg in the city/highway compared to other cars and at the pumps too, especially now!

I'm going to sorta agree, and sorta disagree.

If you compare Honda's true performance NA 4-cylinders, the power outputs are *nearly* unmatched... H22-> 195 HP, K20a - 200/210 , s2000 - 240. All astonishingly good for an NA 4-cyl.

Comparable competitors would be engines like the Celica GTS 180hp, specV 175 HP, etc... all somewhat below. Turbo 4's can easily meet or beat honda's best NA 4-cyl numbers, but then again, they're turbo.

However, the rest of hondas engines are somewhat average or potentially below. The d-series is "below average", Accord V6 is average (99's) to slightly above (04+), non-vtec B's are average...

and you can buy a new G35 or 350z matching the V6 power of the NSX, at 1/3 the cost.

I guess it just comes down to... " what was the engine designed for?" Of course, hondas have tons of merits other than engine power. If power's all you're looking for, buy an LS1 and boost it.

I do agree with the gas mileage part. I can't wait for my RSX-s, so I can get 4-cylinder gas mileage when i want it.

The best mod for Accord is to drop in an CL Type-S cam. Anything else will not help.

I have to dissagree... I would get a F-body 97+ camaro/firebird or a 98+ Monte Carlo/Grand Prix w/ the 3.8 series 2 engine and put a stroker kit that makes it a 4.1 and a preformance cam will give it an easy 350hp NA... my buddy and I just got done doing this to his 97 firebird, the weight and room of a 6, the speed of an 8 and the sound of a 502 bigblock (IT IS SO CHOPPY IT IS SWEET!) sorry this is a little off topic, I am just foaming at the mouth for when we get the 1000 mile break in phase over, I wanna see what this BIt(h can do!!!!!!
O and BTW I know the LS1 owns all, the guy that helped us put the motor in has a NA LS1 w/ 500+ hp

Yes, but you also lose a precisely hand-built engine and hand-built aluminum body, which no robot (automated assembly line) can make to that exact number, or close to that number. THat's why NSX is damn expensive.

NSX is comparable to Porsche and Ferrari and Limbo in quality term that no other mass produced car can archieve.

File that under "other benefits."

We were talking about performance. The NSX handles like a dream, but it's not all about accleration. I assumed the topic of this thread focused on 1/4 miles and dynos, where dollar for dollar, the NSX does not shine.

If we want to shift the conversation to quality, I'm sure that would invite a lot of subjective opinion.
