and that was a 97 F1 car, imagine a new one.

because if something happens the driver wont be able to get out fast enough if theres a roof overhead. this way they can just climb out. their heads are strapped in well enough, or braced at least, that they dont really jerk around that much with the wind. and the helmet helps w/ the road debris etc.
^ and it's been wind tunnel tested to avoid the drivers head from being tossed around. The drivers also have special resistance training machines to help build up the neck muscles. So I would imagine that the wind doesn't seem as treacherous to those F1 drivers. And people say race car drivers aren't athletes.
