Bad Paint Job
I just purchased a 2005 EX Civic about 3 weeks ago. On delivery I noted to the dealer that there was a spot in the paint that needed to be fixed. The dealer agreed and wrote it on their we owe list. A week later I took the car in and they buffed the spot out. The paint looked perfect for about a week until the wax wore off, so I took it back in and they said that there was a problem with the clear coat and that they would have to repaint the door. Now that I have the car back there is paint overspray on one of my other doors, it looks like there is some debris underneath the paint on the door that was repainted and there are spots that look like water spots permanently in the paint that won't come off with washing or detailer. Any suggestions on what I should do other than raise hell with the dealership? The dealership won't be open till Monday, so any suggestions are welcome.
I don't think you have many options other than taking it back and have them fix it for ya. When I bought my 04, it came with a scratch on the rear bumper and they were like bring it next week, we'll reaplace it...what?? next week? I said...you must be freaking kidding me...I made them put a new bumper the same afternoon...dealers are usually like that, they solve everything by procastinating...as soon as the car leaves the dealership, they'd give you a hard time to fix problems...so I suggest not to take too long with it...

being that new I would be all over the dealer about it. Take it back and if they don't do anything to fix it I would say get a lawyer
The things that looks like water spots are actaully overspray of clear coat. Sounds like they didnt even prep the door but just sprayed a new coat of paint over it...
Take it to a body shop and get an estimate of how much its gonna cost.... then take the estimate and say that if Honda cant do it normally you'll take it to a body shop that can and have Honda pay for it

About finding a good body shop..... its tough. The best way to go about this is to ask around, then go visit a body shop and see the types of cars that are there. If you see a couple BMWs, Benzs.... then most likely its a good shop.

I'd definately be happier with a new car, but I'm not sure if the dealership is gonna go for it or not. I guess we'll find out on Monday. The only other problem with that is that this was the only dealership in my area that had a 4 door EX Civic sedan in black with a 5spd transmission. I guess if they'll give me a different car I'll have to take it in a different color.

Just a little update on the whole paint disaster. I took the car back to the dealership and they agreed that it was a shitty paint job. They have since repainted the door two additional times and it's still not fixed right so I demanded a new car or they buy back mine. I await word from Honda on Monday as to their decision.
No I haven't yet. The dealership is calling Honda and trying to get them to buy back my car since the defect came from the factory. If I have no luck going through the dealership you can bet that I'll be calling Honda myself.
