Selling Our Cars

No no no...I'm not gonna sell my car, but I will in about 4-5 years...I was wondering though before I get into modding my car like crazy...what can I expect to sell my car for if I have the following mods:

-body kit
-17" rims
-exaust
-intake
-cf hood
-strut bar
-stereo system
-tint
-neon underglow
-whole new suspension system

How much should I get approx? Ovbiously this car would appeal to a younger croud more than the old lady next door, but what should I expect? I mean would things like a CF hood, and exaust lower the value of my car? What you guys think...

P.S. This is a white, 4 door, automatic LX... (yes, pretty bad combo)

all i can say is that my friend has a 94 integra, he paid 8000 for it. he has about 15g into it and now selling it for 14gs with 75000 miles on it. it has rims, lowered, graphics, ajustable alu.spoiler, full exhaust, monster tack, indaglow gauges, intake, sparkpplugs and wires, stero from hell, stage 1 lightning, tint, shifterknob, petals, and whatever else i don't know about......So i wouldn't do to much that u'll end up lossing money

I've modifed cars a time or two and then tried to sell them here is the lesson:

part your car out, return it to stock and then sell it....

some people think a few things are cool: nice rims for example, or a really nice body kit - they will add only a fraction of what you paid: in the case of the rims, sell them seperatley

however other things will deter....

I stopped putting exhaust systems on my cars because NO ONE will buy a car with exhaust - well they will, but it's a **** to sell it to them....usually they make you give them 400 off to replace the exhaust...ditto on the intake take it off.....

struts - strut bars all that stuff, no one will care about that stuff....meaning you won't get MORE for your car, but you won't get LESS either. Diito on the stereo.

moding a car doesn't pay - it's a lot of fun and it makes the thing REAL nice - but you NEVER get your money back.

just plan ahead, use good bolts and anti-sieze, save your stock parts especially that exhaust, and dont hack up ANYTHING that is stock - if you are installing a stereo for instance - USE wiring harnesses NEVER cut the wires.

Make it as easy as possible to reinstall the factory goods..... just follow that rule.....

It depends.

If you're going to trade in your car, the more stock it is, the better.

If you're going to sell it out on the street, then people may go for the mods and give you what you want. Youmay be better off selling the parts separately.

Remember that if you sell it out on the street, you may have to claim whatever you made off of it on your taxes....if yuo trade it in, that's usually not necessary, at least it wasnt for me when i traded in my last car

Just as everyone has already said, You won't get what you put into it unless you keep it. Most people that want a hooked up car don't want one that is already. They want a stock car to start from scratch.

Yeah, I agree. MOST people are not looking for all the of mods that you will be puting in or have put in when buying a Honda. Most people are just looking for a stock car for realiability, especially when buying a Honda.

How much money can I make off of selling the old parts With my mods, I can return the stock fairly easily because everything is pretty much a bolt on, or it can be made to look like stock again. I wan't atleast 1/2 of what I paid for the mod, but then again, I think it all depends on the mod it self. I don't think you would get as much back for an intake as you would for lets say a stereo system.

It depends how bad you cut it up in the first place...if you unbolt it all nicely and cut it from the cat section nicely then it should cost the exact same to reinstall the old exhaust as it does to install the new exhaust right?

if you (they) hack it into a million pieces it's going to cost you more...make sure you(they) DON't do that

Yeah I had a muffler put on and i was stupid told the guy to cut it off. So basically he cut off the resonator and the muffler into 2 seperate pieces, but I wanted to keep the resonator so then he welded that back in and then finally i decided to keep the stock exhaust hehe so now it's all crap but I'm hoping that the person who buys the car wont notice all the welding

Or you can mod your car like you have gone mad, then try to get featured in a mag like Import Tuner or Super Street. Once your featured there, put up an add with that mag or somewhere saying you were featured there and its now for sale. But good luck with an automatic. I've only seen a few cars in those mags with Automatic Trans...

Depreciation is a bi@tch. Remember, just about everything you buy loses quite a bit of value as soon as you walk out the door with it.

I want to get as much resale value out of my civic as possible, which means bolt ons only, no major interior changes, professionally detailed one time a year, and a maintenance book with honda stamps at each maintenance point. Low mileage helps also, but I love driving my car, so that will be my major killer.
