Rep Power: 267 I didn't read through all the posts so maybe this was mentioned...Ok im not sure on the conversion rates but here gas is about $0.86/liter... but when ya think about look how much ALOT of people spend on a liter of their stupid bottled water or coke or juice!!! those are atleast a $1.50/liter! so in comparison gas is still pretty cheap!

Rep Power: 286 well im happy that my car is a civic making great mpg. i was on this topic with my friends the other day. they were talking about ford and gm and whatnot then i mentioned how no domestic cars make 120hp per liter of displacement and still get like 25mpg and they quickly shutup and we started discussing how we think that rising prices will ultimately bring more and more alternative fuels and energy sources into the real world driving situation.
p.s. anyone know how much exactly a 2002 lx 5spd gets for mpg

gas and coke are two completely different commodities, so you can really compare the two. Read my other post on the other page, and you'll understand.

Rep Power: 0 Don't think I'll drive much less, but I can imagine to some people this may be something that they have to change some things in order to fill up each week. I would guess that SUV's will become a thing of the past unless they can improve gas mileage significantly. I love my civic and will probably always drive one, I can't imagine needing anything else.

Rep Power: 264 $2.49 for 87 here for some gas stations. Ive seen premium going for $2.89 a gallon. What will happen when gas hits $3 a gallon? nothing, ppl will just pay $3 a gallon. The nature of our commuter culture will force us to pay $3 a gallon. In LA right now, i see $3 a gallon in 4-5 weeks. Lets see which area or region will hit $3 first.

Rep Power: 0 does it really matter? People with civics spend and extra dollar or two. Big ****ing deal. U fill up every week thats like $4-$10 more per month. Is anyone really going to miss that? People should stop buying SUV's and trucks who dont use them to do real work or for the cargo space. I'm sick of seeing people who never use their big *** vichecles for off roading or towing and just pick up the kids from school every day

Rep Power: 788 most suvs aren't even made for off-roading so why would the owners wanna ruin it? They buy because they like having a huge vehicle to drive around and waste gas, cause accidents, etc. They feel more like a man in it.

I agree completely on the SUV thing... I drive an F-150 that gets about 12 MPG though... But use it to haul horses and hay and crap like that, so it's justified. But I see many people who buy a SUV because "it's safer" or some stupid thing like that. I am actually considering buying a old civic CX just for commuting to and from work in, at current gas prices it will take 1.4 years to save me what I pay for it.
Another question though, why is everybody for the hybrid? It's only a hair better than the HX MPOG wise, and the HX is far less complicated hence will probably be more reliable than the hybrid. They are also very underrated in there MPG, my aunt has one, drive 50 miles one way to work, and get 49 MPG, Honda says 44 for highway. From what I've heard the hybrid really doesn't get that much better MPG than the HX. The hybrid is a nicer car, but it costs about $5 grand more too, $5 grand can buy a lot of gas that it probably will not be able to save you in gas.

Believe me, if I didn't need, I sure as he11 wouldn't have it. It’s fun to drive and all, but when you fill it up and you see your bill is in the triple digits, it sucks real fast.

Rep Power: 0 Its inevitable that gas will hit $3.00, oil prices have been steadily rising for quite some time now. Its also inevitable that they'll hit $4.00 and $5.00. As time goes on either the price of gas will continue to rise indefinately (as it has been over the past few decades) or perhaps we'll finally find an alternate fuel.

And actually oil prices dropped for almost three weeks straight, OPEC has allowed an additional 500,000 barrels a day to be pumped and shipped, the US has started to divert oil from our reserves into production and we are starting to import more from other countries out side of OPEC now. Oil prices have fallen, until just a few days ago, they went back up. So now we have all this oil, at cheaper prices, why didn't the gas prices go down? Well, because we have all this oil now, the US has to refine it (keep in mind we refine oil for all most the entire world because no body else has the refineries we have). Problem is that we don't have the amount of refineries to keep up with the worlds needs. Once more refineries are built prices will come down. Then OPEC will start pumping less oil, and prices will go back up. This cycle will keep oil prices at where they are once more refineries are made.

Rep Power: 296 only problem with that is that there isn't an incentive to build more refineries, especially since the oil companies are making tons of profits and we have a former oil baron in the White House. I predict we're going to get raped on oil till we get a new President, pretty much.
