Driving Standard with an Automatic
Driving Standard with an Automatic
I heard that driving standard style with an auto by starting off at either 2nd gear and then shifting up everytime the car redlines until you reach the 4th gear in an automatic isn't harmful to your car i wonder what you guys think of this.

Nope.
Automatics are NOT slower because of "bad shifting."
They're slower because they have more moving parts, which causes more friction. This means more energy is converted to heat, and therefore lost before it gets to the wheels.
Manual transmissions will lose around 15% of engine power through the driveline.
Autos will typically lose about 20-25%.
There are some exceptions, though. I know the new Audi DSG gearbox loses only 15%, and it's an "auto" by definition. It's on the new Audi TT 3.2L. Many others are out there, but they're usually on high-end cars.

well partially they are. some auto cars don't even come close to the peak HP shift points. but your statement is correct as well.

just keep ur auto and forget about it.. your just in your "i want a manual" phase.. which should pass eventually when u realize there are more important things in life. At least you have a pretty nice car.

umm.. yea? what im saying is.. its not worth all the trouble switching from auto to manual.. 1) you could have paid less and gottten a manual 2) your spending a lot of money to do it 3) your voiding your warranty. I'm not saying a manual isn't better then a auto cuz it is in terms of performance. If you have a automatic and want a manual i suggest either getting another car or wait for a swap.
