It's the look they're going for. I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, BMW's logo and signature kidney grill came from their past.
Subaru should have a sporty car, the Impreza/WRX/STi package and a luxery car that could be a small bro to the image the Legacy is going after.

Titanium Metallic. You got a problem with that?

Yeah, thats Subarus new direction. Its already on the Tribeca, R1 & R2 cars (Suby version of a Honda Fit/Jazz) and been slated for a while on the 2006 Impreza line. I go back and forth with it. I ilke the lights, hate the center grille and am fine with the side ones. Unfortunately its not just as easy as getting a new grilled since the 2 pieces that define the center grille flow from the bumper so its more like getting a new bumper or chopping the stocker. I hate the rear end, wish they had kept the 04/05 tails and I dont know about the dual exhaust.
HOWEVER, with that being said, since the new WRX is slated to be around 250hp (Sales guru at Renick Subaru), and supposedly rolling in with a 2.5, the STi is going to have to get an increase to 320hp.
Also, check for the special California Edition STi which should hit the market in the next few months. My friend at Renick was telling me about that, basically a stock STi will be modified by Easystreet to 420AWHP via their dyno (which gives EXTREMELY conservative numbers) and upgraded. The most important thing of it all is, Subaru will still warranty all of the stock parts of the car, and Easystreet will warranty all of their modifications. So basically what you would do, but you get to keep the warranty. There will also only be 55 made for the entire US and they will be distinguised with numbered plates in the car and in the engine bay. Downside, look for it to be around $45,000-$50,000.
