Defective Windshields??

Ok, I had a rock hit my window in lower driver side portion of window. Then, a lil crack formed from it. I was driving a week later with heat on of course, and crack (ice breaking off sound). The whole lower part of the wind shield has a "w" looking crack, from Driver to passenger along the bottom, and this is an 04 EL sedan (brand new). I was pissed, but wutever. Now as I look at more and more cars similar to mine, I have noticed 6 cars with the exact same crack. Same curvature and same cracking position, anyone else notice this??

Yes, there was a TSB about this. I had the same thing happen to me. I'll see what I can find.

Umm the crack has expanded as far as it can go, the whole windsheild. For new glass that has to be a TSB, especially noticing the same crack on alot of hondas..

when i lived in colorado, my windshield cracked all along the bottom too. but if honda can stick the tip of a pen into the place (meaning they can find even the smallest indentation on the exterior of the windshield) where the rock hit then it's not their fault and they won't replace it under warranty. if you live in a cold place and you see a rock chip, you should try and get it fixed right away. they can fix chips and even small cracks, but once it starts to spread, you're screwed.

TSB # 01-091
But I don't know if it applies to you because of the rock.

An uneven flange surface may lead to cracks in the windshield at the lower corner (01-091, October 23, 2001

It wasn't a recall, it was a TSB.

Bulletins for 2004 Honda Civic L4-1.7L SOHC

Service Bulletins
TSB Number Issue Date TSB Title 02-034 APR 04 SRS - Indicator Lamp ON/Multiple DTC's Set
03-068 APR 04 Body - Door Lock Cylinder Binds/Sticks
88-023 MAR 04 Battery - Testing Procedure
02-002 MAR 04 M/T - Clutch Pedal Noise/Notchy Feel
04-009 FEB 04 Computers/Controls - HIM Module Updating
01-023 JAN 04 Engine Controls - Control Module Programming Procedure
00-064 NOV 03 Body - Deformed Windshield Molding
96-012 JUL 00 A/C - System Performance Testing

The 00-064 NOV 03 Body - Deformed Windshield Molding has been an issue since 2001, and still is ongoing obviously. I'll inform honda, of course once winter is over about the windshield, shouldn't have any real problem getting it replaced, as I've dealt with tsb's before.

Thanks guys..

I had a similar problem with the original windshield. It sucks, but it does grow when it gets cracked especially when the air from the heater/ac hits it.

while a defect could exist, its the rocks fault. The rock cracked your windshield not the defect.

i thought about getting mine replaced, but its just gonna deform again, i think its a design flaw and not a manufacturing flaw. i guess honda decided not to work out that kink.

You really shouldn't wait any length of period to get your windshield repaired, especially as severe as you say it is. The windshield is one of the most critical structural pieces on a car. Some airbag systems (not sure about the Civic/EL) use the windshield to "push off" against and propel forward to protect the passenger. This isn't so much an issue with a driver side airbag, since it is further out, but for the passenger side airbag which is much larger and closer to the windshield, it is.
This really should be common sense, and nobody should have to tell you to get it fixed ASAP, but a cracked windshield, no matter what the severity is, should not be overlooked or postponed to a later time.

Ok, made an appointment for thursday next week... They wouldn't give me **** for having a header, intake, and exhaust would they? I also have a head unit, subs, and speakers, but I doubt that matters. Oh yea, I have drilled rotors and aftermarket pads. But after oem all pads are aftermarket pretty much.
