clicking sound on brand new car
Hi, I just bought a 2005 4 door honda civic LX (automatic) three weeks ago. It has around 300 miles so far. . So i put my key in, drive around for awhile, then stop, turn the engine off, and pull the key out. Then i hear this clicking sound in my engine or underneath my car. It makes a "click" sound every few seconds then it stops. It stops completely after 45 seconds or so. My friend said may be the engine is cooling down or something,, he is not sure about it... Do u know what is the problem is before i take the problem back to my honda dealer? I heard from someone there is a break-in period of 600 miles or something... should i be worried about this? thanks
its normal. my acura, civic, fathers 4runner, camry... all do the same. when you drive the car for awhile and park it and turn it off, you'll always hear the clicking sound (sounds like rock pebbles)

Yeah that's a normal sound.
If memory serves me right, that ticking is caused by metal in your engine/exhaust/etc cooling down. It's a perfectly normal sound.

Actually... That tick tick tick tick tick sound you hear is the electric fuel injection I'm told... Well from a guy at the dealer anyways.. Cause I was wondering what the **** that sound was... So I asked.

^what? fuel injectors are silent, and arent even armed when the car is off. the ticking is all the metal components of the motor cooling down, sometimes this can cause components to constrict since metal expands when its hot.
I have a 3 week old LX-G sedan as well but I don't hear the clicking at all. Although I have heard it on a variety of other cars (Toyota to Hyndais), but I have not sounds on my 'vic after I turn off the ignition.
