with intake/header/exhuast, however, the car will be able to redline 6th gear at 174mph.

Misleading, however, is the 200-mph top speed promised by the speedometer, as the GTO is electronically limited to 155; the gauge face is a direct transplant from Australia, which uses metrics, and instead of redoing the gauge face, GM incorporated an electronic adjuster that changes the needle movement between metric and English, allowing the retention of the single set of metric-based numbers.

i am just posting what pontiac says as well as what people say on ls1.com in the gto forums.
apparently the "change" that must be made for the gauge to read speed properly, affects the displayed speed at high mph.
but the concensus on ls1.com is that it's speed limited to about 155-158mph. 170mph displayed is just off is all i'm saying. i'm sure you were nearing top speed. I just think that the speedo is off a lot due to that conversion that is done from the first thing I showed you. knowatimean?

not saying that it detracts from the car in any way.
150 or 170 is far faster than any of us need to be going anyways. lol
i've had my S2k up to 135mph maybe 3 times, and up to 162mph ONCE. the scary part is 135mph feels like 80 in an S2000.

In 2002 Car & Drivers’s Tony Swan and West Tech Racing attempted to set at new speed record for the G/GT class (engines displacing 1.51-2.00 liters at Bonneville Salt Flats) with an S2000. Their two way average speed was 153.864 mph. The car was lowered two inches, had special Mickey Thompson salt tires, OEM lip, exhaust porting to the head, a Comptech header, and stand alone engine management. The car dynoed at 255 horses at the wheels.

So here is a strong S2000 (255 WHP!) with I/H/E will do 153mph when accurate timing equipment is available.
I find that strange. When my car had dyno'd 228 WHP, I was able to get 160 MPH. I guess a 7G Civic is just cleaner aerodynamically than an S2000 with a hardtop.
Who knows...

Cars incapable of reaching 175 mph are only given three miles to accelerate so they may have gone faster, given more space to do so.
but alas, if you wish to argue the point further, i'll simply point you here
right click, save as
S2000 top speed
this is a stock S2000 that was able to max out it's speed by finishing going down a slight hill.

and as for your own little 160mph run, you didnt get to 160mph with a stock ecu that's for sure. so i'm assuming you have an aftermarket ecu, since the stock ecu limits the 7G civic at 130mph or so.

Who cares, 150, 170 mph is over the limit....Dosent matter if your doing it in an S2000, a GTO or a bloody Enzo....Your never going to race anyone up to that kind of speed without getting nailed by the cops eventually....Stop the **** fest, you both have fast cars
....
And dont stock S2000's go 155mph Electornically Limited? My cousin owns Manchester Honda, I'll have to ask him.

The JDM S2000 is limited to 150mph by the ECU.
The USDM S2000 has no speed limiter at all and can redline 6th gear at an indicated 174mph. (with a few added hp over stock that is)

i've got you all beat. my best friends dad has an airplane and we were cruising at over 300 mph. it was so loud it was awesome. but anyway my cousins got an Audi RS6 and when we drove it from here to rapid city (400 mi) she got tired and went to sleep in the back seat and i went from cruising at 80mph to 155 mph in less then 10 seconds without any trouble at all. no road noise nothing it was just calm as all hell. that scared the **** out of me. but i've given up high speed driving because i was just going like 80 or somthing on the interstate and i guess i sped up a little bit so i was going like 93 when i went under this bridge. and there was a cop on the bridge with a laser shooting people and he clocked me at 93 so these cops pulled up to me and gave me a ticket for going 90 in a 65. i'm basicly Fuvcked insurance wise for awhile now so dont any of you guys go out and speed hardcore like i was doing cuz now i regret it big time

Wish I had a Turbo
