Am I going to Screw my Car UP?!
Am I going to Screw my Car UP?!
Ladies and Gentleman,
I am a very proud owner of a civic ex. I love to drive cars hard, and I love the car I'm now, and while I wouldn't say I'm a crazy driver, I do like to let'er rip on the open road now and again. There's nothing better than hearing that engine wind out into 7k rpms, and the feeling of the torque...i'm sure you guys can agree. My question is, I have an auto trans and i've always been told to drive my cars real slow like so they'll last long, but then i've been told by others that honda's have superior quality and will last through all sorts of abuse and hard driving. What I want to know is, my car is so peppy, i feel like it wants to drive fast...am I going to F*ck my car up guys?
Thanks!

i have had my car for over 3 years now. every stop light i get it up to speed fast. ect ect basicaly beet on it. almost 3 months now with my turbo and i beat the beep outa the tranny every day and no problems so far at all.
honda auto trannys SUCK.. mine blew at 16,000 miles.. honda in all has good reliability, however their auto trannys are very weak... if your under warranty then i guess driving as hard as u want isn't THAT bad
YEah, no nuetral drops for sure, i did that in my 98 v6 mustang ALL the time, and by the time i sold it , it had 36k miles on it, and lost almost all the power it had ( if it really ever had any ).
Any time that you drive a car hard you stand a chance of messing it up. However your tranny will be the first thing to go. And as stated earlier please no neutral drops, that is the stupidest thing that you can do. Other than that drive it like you stole it a civic can take it. Besides your auto tranny will not allow you to do anything to bad (other than the above stated).
honda auto trannys do suck. with the five speed, you can do what ever you want, i wouldn't drop the clutch everyday, but you can haul ***, and hit the 7k rpms all day. honda engines are strong as hell, but i would take it easy with an automatic.
my buddy has an 01' lx automatic, he is a pizza delivery driver so he drives it hard as hell, he threw off all the gear synchros at 45,000 and had to get everything replaced tranny hasnt driven the same since. now he hates the auto he wishes he could get a 5spd

The problem is that with a manual it is much easier to fvck somthing up if you are being a jacka$$. I have misshifted twice doing stupid shitt each time I was back on the clutch quick, but it could have been bad. You can't do stuff like that with an auto. The best example is that video of the kids in a older integra and the driver goes to upshift into 4th and insted hits 2nd and loses control and ends up in a cornfield and ruins the tranny. I am sure some of you have seen it, it makes me laugh everytime

My auto is at 30k and going strong. I like to rev it up too but just don't do it at every light and you'll be fine. Oh and CHANGE THE TRANNY FLUID EVERY 15,000 MILES WITH HONDA ATF!!!! Also get a tranny cooler B&M is good for like $50. It will save you lots of headache later on.

Oh yea, btw, my auto's at about 51k and no problems at all. Sigh*... I want a manual. Auto is getting pretty boring. Is it worth it to do the 5-spd conversion, or should I just sell it and get a manual?

sell it and get a manual... or just wait for a swap (like me). a manual civic will still be slow.. unless u just want to drive manual, i think if you have a auto, the best idea is to just wait to get a k swap

If your car isn't modded, just trade her in. I want a manual too but my car has too many mods on it already. My modded auto has 10whp less than a stock manual.
But even if I get a k swap, I'll have to get the pedal assembly and some of the other stuff wont I? Someone told me I would have to get that stuff separate anyway. I know that a stock manual civic is still going to be pretty slow, but I think it'll still be more fun than auto. I drive a lot and I'm getting bored just holding onto the steering wheel and pushing 2 pedals.
