and FWIW, I agree, it's a combination of luck and car design. If I were to go over a cliff I'd rather be in a Hummer than a Suzuki Sidekick, and while my life is flashing before my eyes in mid air I'd also prefer to have my fall broken by many small branches instead of one giant tree trunk.
