Cheapest, fastest, AUTO cars?

My parents are finally getting me my own car. But for some reason, they refuse to buy anything that is a manual. I was thinking about a Civic, but I have barely heard anything good about an AUTOMATIC civic performance wise, without spending some mad $$.

So my question is, What is a good fast AUTO car that doesn't cost more than... say.. 10K (Probably more like... 7k. )

Please dont flame me...

Having an auto civic myself, I can assure you that it is still a very fun car to drive. I too long for a manual, ( I made a bad decision at time of purchase) but a car's character can make it a very enjoyable drive even if its an auto. She ain't fast, but she's got spirit. My recommendation is to not only look at "fast" ,but be more concerned with the feel of the car. A fun car feels fast, even if the numbers don't show it.

Well I had a whole paragraph typed out about not putting too much money into your first car, but I will keep it on point. I really like automatic integras if you can find one from the mid-90s. They like to rev a lot more than our civics do, and they have great handling.

if you spend money wisely and not have to buy everything brand new and at high prices you can get i'h'e'nitrous for $1000 or less..i did... AEM short ram intake brand new ebay $75 and then traded with no extra charge for an injen cold air intake. magnaflow exhaust and obx/kamikaze replica header $300 i changed my muffler to a flowmaster and that was $80 and i bought a complete basic nx wet kit for $250. you just gotta know where to look. i've gotten a few extra things since then but still those are your basic bolt-ons and like you my car was bought by my parents and i hated the fact that it was auto but oh well. now any kid who makes minimum wage can get bolt-ons in less than half a year as long as your patient and look anywhere and everywhere for good deals.

oh yeah i forgot to mention one other thing..just because it may be used doesn't mean it's still isn't in great condition. most sellers on here are good people and aren't trying to cheat anyone. if you get a 7thgen then frequently check the for sale forums because there will always be someone parting out.

Bro go with a v8 an ls1 TA or camaro with around 80k on it, you can get for 10 grand. not worth getting a 4 or 6 banger with an auto. v8's still produce good power even if it is an auto. i know my TA did.

the only high revving DOHC VTEC Honda's that have auto are.... the last generation Prelude, and NSX.... and both are out of the price range... but then again, if you had the auto versions of those, they dropped the redline. 7 grand... I would say Integra as well, or old Eclipse if a coupe is what you want. Those might not be that fast out the box, but potential is there. If not, get a mid 90's Maxima.

get a 1st gen eclipse, non turbo, lotsa miles for $2000. Rebuild engine with all new parts of buy new engine $3000. Turbo stuff off of old one in junkyard $500. New turbo and wastegate for more boost $2000

Thats a little over $7000.
Stock...a 2nd gen eclipse/talon auto will pull hard with only a greddy emanage and some simple tuning. The parts and tuning will near $1000 but you will have a very fast, sexy, auto car. I almost got one myself. too bad my parents made me get a 4 door. Otherwise id have a nice red turbo awd 2nd gen eclipse.

My parents dont really want to spend 10K on a car just knowing I will just mod it. So they would prefer something in the 5-7K price range... My parents got back driving and saw this in one of the lots: $6990 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe auto, 101,626 miles... parents don't really like that mileage.. Is that bad? Doesnt bother me to bad.

i dont think the price is good for that car AT ALL. seriously look for a 2nd gen eclipse/talon or a 6th gen civic with less than 100,000 miles and they wont have to spend that much then.

EDIT:
Hit up kelly blue book to see what is a recommended price on that car.

That is a lot of mileage for that $...a Honda engine can handle alot more, but for the age and the mileage that is alot IMO.

As someone said earlier, the only way you'll get a Civic auto fast is turbo....basic bolt ons wont do it.

I'd look for a Supra auto.

someone told me this once

there are three things in the car world

reliability
power
price

when you purchase a car, you can only pick a car with only 2 of those attributes.

be glad your parents are buying you a car, and get something reliable and cheap, so you don't burn their wallet

for 7k and automatic, i'd say an older vw golf with the 2.0 or 1.8t, if they offered that

Look for older Preludes or Del Sol's or Miata's... Those cars are a lot more fun, but they'll be a little older than a similarly priced Civic.

If you're parents refuse to buy you a auto...my guess it that you'll end up with a 6th or 7th gen Civic whether you like it or not lol.

You parents are concerned with reliability so a older high mileage car isn't going to work, imo.

Like Mugenman said, work on your driving skills first.
Don't worry about how fast the car is.
Because a good driver behind a beater is better than a novice behind a Porsche.

90% of us would be dead had our parents allowed us to buy something faster when we got our licenses.

i will get flamed bad on this one but I used to have a 95 chysler cirrus v-6 an that was a very ballsy car, other will tell you i am full of it an blah blah but they frwakin rock. I did not take care of that car for ****, and drove the hell outta it. I put 120,000 miles on it in 2.5 yrs and ALWAYS my foot in the floor, I could let off the gas and time the shifts EVERY time, and that was bad ***, felt like a stick, This was bad though cause it fvcked my tranny, other than that it was a beast, I might have chaged the oil like 6 times, and it was still solid just didn't move I really miss that car. I woulda raced and any civic in it.

also about a 95 2 door camery looks hot!

i drove a '89 vic when i first got my license and let me tell you, that thing got so much pu$$y. its not about what you drive but how you drive it. People dont car if you got a fast car unless you make a big deal about (like i do). 94-99 civic's have plenty of power. and are nice looking too. Just my opinion, peace
