You can get an rsx or TC which the fit and finish feels generally better. If your a performance nut the SRT-4 will blow the **** out of the colbalt for the same price. It also comes with better seats a sweet exhuast note functional yet basic interior.. I feel a neons plastics are better than a colbalts. Ohh ya an srt-4 has nice seats. Colbalt has APC looking seats. Dont get me started on the rsx its just all out better.
The car isnt hot for the price.........you use to be able to get comaros for that price and a little more you could get a z28.
As for american pride. The ford GT love it or hate it is top Gears 5th fastest car in the world rated 550hp
the saleen s7 will be tested this summer to beat the mclaren f1 saleen wants a 245mph top speed from his twin turbo 750hp engine.
zo6 c6 is an amazing beast boasting for 75k 200mph top speed with a o-60 around 3.7 secounds.
The viper coupe is amazing as well..
American cars are just as good if not better than any other cars in the world. You just need to look for the right car.

Anyway it does have a civic Type-R motor that is supercharged to 300 horsepower. It also has next to no weight. Yes they only do track times, though. If this seems unfair, think about driving a 10-second drag car that cant turn for crap or an evo or STi. Real roads have curves and lets face it, driving fast is fun. A straight line car will get old quick if you live where there isnt alot of room to play in it.
Also with an evo or STi you already have 10 second evos/sti's? that are daily driven. The track times may not show how fast a car is in straight line but why not get the best of both worlds? (Enzo / Atom / modded evo/sti)

Plus, how many times has Honda made Car and Driver's Top 10 list as compared to Chevy? Don't have to research this to know that Honda has kicked Chevy's azz in this category!

if you watch the supercar challenge they some up the recorded top speed tests for the modern supercars as well. The mclaren boasting the fastest at 241mph. About the track tests some people think they are a little unfair but in truth top gear is measuring all around performance. My little fluke about it is that the differnce between the carrera GT and enzo is probally driver error.
The hosts favorite car of all time the Ferrari F40 is mine as well. Twin turbo v8 ferrari that weighed as much as a lotus elise almost.
Anyways back on subject the colbalt is pretty damn cheap and it is no worthly replacedment for the Comaro nor is it a match for a wrx, rsx, Srt-4.
I love chevys, hell my whole life grown up with comaros and vettes (obvious) but I would never look at a colbalt as a car to purchase after I sat in one. Before I sat in one I was all like you guys, you have to see it in person to understand what I mean by cheap cheap cheap!!!

Put all the ~$20K pocket rocket cars on 3 different race tracks (for normalization purposes)
RSX-S
WRX
SRT-4
Cobalt SS
ION RL
Mini S
GTI
Focus SVT (yes I know its gone)
Tell me who runs the fastest combined average lap time... then I'll worry about what the number say.
They can turn out whatever numbers they want on a skid pad, that depends on the conditions and too many other things. I doubt they tested the Corvette and the Cobalt on the same day. Either way, numbers like that don't apply too much. How many times do you drive around a circle? Not many. And sure, it may have outbraked it.... once. Maybe 3 times. How many times can you do it before the brakes start to die? One stop is pretty much a function of the brake pad compound. 13-18 times a lap is going to find a well designed brake system.
I dont care either way. Pro-American, Pro-Japanese, whatever. If GM finally build a good car, way to go. I'm going to sit back here and watch.... just like with the SRT4.... mostly because I don't need another car right now, but people already have enough confidence in it to enter it in SCCA Club Racing for next season.

Honda > Chevrolet... and always will be.
I would rather have a S2000 like my dad's... and put into it the money I saved from buying a S2000 over a base Corvette. Also the Civic clearly proves to be more reliable as well as all of Honda. It is clear Honda's standards are clearly higher then most domestics (if not all).
And why we are on the subject... Why is everyone comparing the Base Civic to a Supercharged Cobalt... Should we not be comparing the Civic Si and the Supercharged Cobalt?

Now we are getting away from comparing completely stock vehicles.

That would be good. I must say that it is pretty "weak" of manufactures to have to add a turbo or supercharger to make over 200 hp. Was does this say about the engine itself? That it is a puzzie!

secondly, the cobalt will NOT take a Z51 vette in the twisties. the cobalt posted a higher skidpad number than the vette. which basically means jack ****. all it means is that it can go around in a circle with more lateral g's than the vette.

im not trying to jump on anyone or call anybody a honda fanboy or nothing, since i own a honda i agree the interior is slighty better in my opinion but motor wise i think the ecotec with outperform the d17 series. i will agree to the fuel economy and resale value issue tho..Also, i see everyone is seeming to forget the cobalt ss comes with 18inch rims and still runs a 14.5, lets see honda or acura come out with a car that offers 18's and still runs a mid 14 !?

If they priced the thing at 18 grand instead of 21 grand it would be better than alot of cars in its class. Has chevy suceeded already before the release (they are not for sale yet guys) to bring about attention, yes.
your all talking about it.
As for the comercials where they show it with the c6. You be lucky if that car shares one damn bolt with a corvette.

I guess so...but I'm just curious...because I thought I read that it was his dad's car, but he really seems sprung nuts about it...
No big deal though because my dad's FD gives me orgasms too. Just wish I could afford to insure the damn thing, so he would give it to me.

"Way to go" to those of you whose parents have given you a car. Me on the other hand, I prefer to acquire things by my own hard work.
Hey I never said he GAVE it to me. I said I wish I could insure it so he would give it to me...which he never did.
I own my own house, 2 cars, and a bike. All of which I acquired through years of hard work. If my pops wants to give me his "old sportscar" because he's getting too old for it, well that's fine by me.

I apologize for coming off the wrong way. I get annoyed by "youngsters" whose parents buy them and car and give them money to get whatever mods they want. What are these parents thinking about? Their child's happiness? Ya right! How about being more concerned about raising a responsible child!

The Mini Cooper S only has 160HP, from my understanding the Cobalt SS has quite a bit more than that.
How does it's stopping distance compare to newer compact cars (ie: the new Mazda 3 has been shown to have excellent braking vs say and RSX that has been shown only to have so-so braking).
It sounds like the Cobalt SS is definately giving a lot of cars the run for their money but the FI route I think will eventually backfire owing to decreased longevity and I question how good the chasis is as a lot of people have called it just a rehashed Cavalier.
Oh and its ugly. But we might as well stick to objective vs subjective here, otherwise it'll get ugly.

I'm just happy that even Toyota got higher than Honda. I own the tC now, (Toyota motor) and it's really impressing me.
I beat RSXs, maximas, civics (including Si's), GTIs all the time, and they never expect it! Love my lil machine haha... BUt yeah the SS is impressive never the less, but I'd still rather own an Si any day over that car.
