I haven't posted here in a long long time. Mainly because I got rid of my civic and bought a WRX. Really no reason to post in a civic forum after that. BUT...I did want to let you know something I found that I thought was very peculiar. When I called my insurance company to get quotes for cars I was very suprised. I got quoted for a Lexus IS300, the WRX, and an EVO (granted I never planned on getting an EVO becuase I don't like the looks..but I was curious) Anyway the Lexus was $7 more a month than the civic. However the EVo and the WRX were both $16 LESS a month than the civic. I was like WTF???? According to my agent the subaru is a safer car in an accident...plus there are less subaru thefts than civic thefts. Now granted I am 29 with only one ticket...so I don't know if this will hold true to the younger people here. But It's something I thought I would share. Especially for people who are on this site thinking about buying a civic because they are "inexpensive cars" Also my car was 02 EX 2 door. I also found out that the EX is rated the same as the SI. I have meridian insurance (subsidary of State Auto...no not 1-800 safe auto ) They might rate things a little different than say the worst insurance group of all time (in my opinion at least) progressive.
Just thought I would share.

Rep Power: 376 That makes no sense at all.
the subaru is NOT safer than the civic in a crash. the civic has 5 stars all around for every impact, just like every honda does. the subaru and civic are equally safe when it comes to their safety ratings.
theft rate, yes the civic probably is higher, which is only one possiblity why it would be higher.
however, the WRX is a turbo sedan. if your insurance company is charging you less money to drive a turbo $25,000 import than a non turbo economy $17,000 civic, then you are lucky or they were simply raping you on your civic coverage.
my guess is the latter of the two. in case you didnt realize, agents make money off commission. they are given a base rate by the insurance company, and the agent can add on to that as much as he wants in order to make more money.
i gaurantee though, just about everyone here could call and get a quote for both a civic and a WRX and the civic will be cheaper to insure.

Rep Power: 272 its not called an EL..
We have vics sedans, but the Acura EL is a sedan EX with leather and all this other crap...
to make a long story short.. its a Sedan with EX and a slightly diffrent look. but same frame and interchangable parts...oh and rear discs ...

Rep Power: 0 The civic costing more insurance-wize makes a little sense. A significant population of Civic drivers mod their cars and wreck them the same day. And civics have been known to target the 16-24 range. The insurance companies just decided to push the cost of insurance on civics up because of this. Theft is also another big reason.

Rep Power: 297 I don't know if this applies to the topic...but my friend [19 year old spoiled s.o.b. =)] went from a 2001 Honda Prelude SH (manual) to a 2005 Subaru WRX (manual).
He saves $1000 a year with the exact same coverage.
Much of it probably has to do with him going 2 door to 4 door, but to gain performance and still save money is messed up lol.

Rep Power: 261 I did a quote for the STI and Evo about 5 months ago, and it was roughly $200 more a year for both of those cars compared to my vic. So like $16.00 a month more to drive the EVO or STI.

Rep Power: 272 In the greater toronto area, the civic ex is rated the same as the si, which is really hurting for insurance mostly since the si is rated as a sports coupe causing rates to sky rocket.

Rep Power: 327 Hmmm . . . . . .quite interesting. When I had my WRX, it was a 2004 San Remo Red. Im 20, single male, insurance was $403.20. Sold it and went back to my 2002 EX in Titanium, and insurnace is $340.36. Those might seem high but I also have 4 points on my record currently, 1 falls off this year, 2 the next.

Chuckle..I'd say your the one getting raped...I pay about half that for the WRX. Thats 100k /300k including un/underinsured, 100 collision and 50 comp deductible.
Like I stated...all insurance companies are different...when I was quoted by progressive (who in my opinion is the kind daddy of butt rapers) they wanted like 6,000 a year for the same coverage..on my bike they wanted 9,000 a year..hell the bike only cost me 9,000 I hate progressive.
