Help - 2001LX vs 2002EX or 2003EX
I need a little help. I am about to become a Honda owner again.
I can get a very good price on a low mileage (18K) 2001LX. But I also found a low mi. 2002EX (24K) and a 2003EX (16K). Both the EX's are obviously a few thousand more than the 2001. Other than the ABS on the EX's, are these cars that much different? I not looking for performance. I'm looking for great mpg and Honda dependability. Which way would you guys go on this?

Well the Ex's have Vtec and the others do not also you have ABS nicer wheels I think and the 2003 comes with the new keys and theft deterrent system I think anyways Id get the 03 as resale will be higher..
But thats my opinion

I'd go for the 03's... They've got different interiors from 01's-02's and if you're looking at the coupe, like mentioned, you'll get a nice looking set of rims too. If you're going for a sedan, you'll appreciate the new things after the redesign becuase the interior just flows much better and the rear passengers won't complain much.
That 03 EX looks like it's the best deal of the bunch.

i would say go aherad and get t he 2003 ex, they are better in my opinion with the moonroof, vtec, gauges, abs. IMHO

I believe there is some confusion here... 03 coupe's came with alloys, 03 sedans didn't. 04 sedans started getting alloys as standard stuff.
Anyway, DaHoov, are you looking at coupes or sedans?

I had an 01 LX for almost 4 years and has absolutely zero problems. EX has a sunroof and "vtec"
Do the ex's come with 4 wheel disc brakes? I know my lx only came with them on the fronts. The rear were drums. I would assume that since the ex has abs that they would be 4 wheel disc brakes...nice feature if it comes this way.
Here are what the ex has over the 01 lx:
cd player
body color mirrors and door handles
15 in wheels
intermittent wipers
rear cupholder
abs
moonroof
lighted ignition key switch
keyless entry
vtec
and more significantly, the 01 lx has no stabilizer bar.
and i think honda upgraded our power steering for 02.

I think the other only difference other than what has been previously mentioned is that the trim on the exterior is chrome and painted on th EX. The other models have black unfinished plastic for mirrors, door handles, and miscl trim pieces.
If I had to do it all over again, I would have gotten an EX instead.
Whoops looks like Dalaw beat me to it.

The consensus, so far, seems to be go for the EX's.

-2001 LX 4DR in excellent cond. with 40k miles: Private party Value: $10,480.00
-2003 EX 4DR in excellent cond. with 30k miles: Private party Value: $13,605.00
the price difference is about how much it would be if it were 2005 LX vs 2005 EX. its rouglhy 3k difference, and in my example I created a 10k milage difference too. Basically my point is depreciation is equal, no matter which model. What it comes down to again is do you want the sunroof and 12 unnoticable HP for 2500-3k more? This is the reason why I bought an LX in the first place, because I did not deem it worth it.

ABS is the main reason I keep pusing people to buy the Civic, it comes standard on EX models. VTEC is just something extra that comes with the package, like the moonroof.
The new things on the sedan are worth it, in the backseat there are taller adjustable rear headrests. They're awesome and they keep passengers quiet. The seats have been redesigned to be softer and the storage in the front seat is nice becuase the passenger doesn't try to get more than he/she deserves... Also, the gauges are hard to read on 01-03 Civic, you'll appreciate the ones on the 03 model. The one that you're looking at has the lowest mileage too, so go for that 03 EX.
You can probably tell, I love my dad's Civic....

I just got back from Turnersville Honda (NJ). They offered a 2005 5 spd LX for the same price as the 2003 EX (automatic).
$13,400 (includes my P.O.S. 95 Ford SHO). This seems like a very good deal. The 05 LX has everything the 03EX has except the ABS and sun roof. This is a good deal. right???????????

I got 15" honda alloy wheels
lx has intermittent wipers (I have an 02)
you don't need abs, moonroof, lighted ignition, keyless entry (lazy as hell), or weak vtec
