BMW looks to be lossing its conservative edge. I am not a fan of any of the redesigns to date.

etc etc

that report really really made be scare of even considering BMW...BMW is so called UNRELIABLE EXPENSIVE CAR for rich people who will spend money maintain it...

the rear end = not what you posted. it has the light bar above the license plate (like a 7 series) and the entire car just looks like a 7 series that has been squished down to the size of an E46. the headlights look somewhat similar to the pictures, but not really the same.

someone already got it? can you take a pic and ask the person about reliability?

A lot of reports fail to mention that a lot of the problems involve electrical issues. The engines are rock solid and the platforms are excellent, but since a lot of the electrical things are tied together (esp in luxery cars where they try to make everything "easy", once one thing gets messed up several other things follow)

check out edmunds.com and read some of their reviews.

Uh... right...
That IS the new 3 series. Polyphony Digital (makers of the Gran Turismo series) made a new demo, featuring the new 3 series, to feature at an auto show, and that is exactly how it appeared, I'll see if I can find the picture.

I don't think you understood my post. I never said the new 3 series is the same thing as an E46. I'm saying that DIMENSION wise, it is very similar.

Imagine a Bangle-7 series. Imagine that Bangle-7 series, but in the DIMENSIONS of an E46. Voila! Bangle-3 series is what you have before you.

Actually, the new 3-series is slightly larger than its predecessor. Basically every new Bangled-designed BMW is larger than its predecessor, to make room for the new 1 series.

I didn't say the new 3 series is the same size LxWxH. I'm saying it's SIMILAR.

I guess reading comp > most people? lol

Well, you see, similar implies almost the same, not significantly larger (the new 3-series is just slightly smaller than the old 5-series).

Guess someone needs to be more clear j/k

Yep, you're definitely wrong dude.
Keep in mind, these are pics from the 3-series GT4 demo that Sony produced for BMW marketing purposes, and the car looks exactly the same in the pics as it does in the game.

but we still have to pay a lot to fix electrical problems? life will be much harder when you are extremely busy at work and you have to bring a car the the dealer for fix.

That is why reliability is so important...So far Lexus and Acura have made some car that does not fail; but their look is kind of boring compare the the infamous BMW.

That is the problem. Owning a luxery car isn't cheap. Especially one that is considered the standard in the industry. If you can afford it and really need to get that "ultimate driving" experience, than go for it. If you want an experience that will make you keep you happy at the end of 3 years, than stay away from it.

BMW has taken a turn for the worst with this design. Now all the cars look the same (3,5,6 and 7) just like all the Audi's that are out now. The 6 Series has got to be the best looking BMW out now though. If a new M3 Comes out looking like that I will be so upset and disappointed.

if I remember well the source was from yahoo, and it was posted by a memeber.

We are talking about america BMW...

what rating is the topgear thing? reliability rating? customer satisfaction rating? and it includes the whole world if you noticed well. For instance Peugot...we don't have that in america. How can the site even rate it?

I worked as a mechanic for dealership that sold mainly BMW and Benz. I have worked on just about every model from both companies. I will tell you one thing, after working on these cars I will never buy one. If something does break which happens quite often.....you end up spending a fortune on parts alone.

That is what a person who work at BMW dealer told me too...

so why do we pay a lot for a car that is unreliable...a lexury car should really be solid...

Because they are cutting edge in terms of performance and technology. BMW is very inovative when it comes to implementing new design features and manufacturing processes. This is exactly opposite of American car companies who go for "tried and true". However, they usually end up having poor reliability because of quality issues. I would guess that BMW has more problems because they are chocked full of electronics and designs that haven't quite been fully worked out yet.

JP375 has it half right. The technology is to new to be put into production without knowing what the long-term effects are going to be. On top of that engineers not just at BMW but at every car company design flaws in parts purposely to make money for the company on parts (which for BMW are big bucks) as well as for dealerships for service and parts.

Well thanks for agreeing partially, but I must comment on your idea that engineers design flaws into parts to make money on replacements. This is a rather common misconception. No engineer would intentionally design a part to prematurly fail, just so that the company could make money off of a replacement. What is true is that often parts are designed to have a certain operating life which may be less than that of cars overall life, but this is most likely cost based. If an engineer is told to design a certain part and keep it under X dollars then they become quite limited in what can be designed. If the company cheaps out on the parts to begin with, they can sell a car at a lower initial cost and be more competitive in the market. So I don't think parts have specific design flaws which would cause them to fail prematurely, but rather the flaw in many parts is that, because of cost they were unable to create a part that would have near zero failure rates. There is a fine balance between making a well built car at a decent price, and making money. Contrary to popular belief, it is not easy to make money by manufacturing cars.

Thats what I remember reading somewhere as well. It was Mercedes that has poor reliability. BMW had some issues too, but no where near as bad as Mercedes.
