what can an hx do???
I am going to get rid of my RSX and get a Civic HX this summer. I have been trying to research aftermarket on HX's and can't find any parts that I would want to put on it. I don't know how far I will take it, but to start I want to beef up my suspension, springs, front and rear strut bars, anti roll bars, and I cant find any applications. I want the HX for it's base price, lightness, and it is the only non EX with vtec. Please give me any advise as to what I can expect with enhancing my future car. Thanks
reasons why your are making this mistake:
1) the civics curb weight is not dramatically differnt from the rsx
2) you are getting rid of your DOHC i-vtec machine for a little SOHC vtec
3) you are ditching a car thats much better than your next choice
4) hx cannot do much without boost/swap. i/h/e/cat will be only a 5-14hp gain.
5) k-series engines have much more potential than D series.
please keep your rsx and be happy that you do not own a slow civic.

the current potential for the HX isn't very high. right now the only thing going is swap or turbo for decent numbers. if you're willing to pay less for less performance, thats fine.

well with bolt on engine mods, you will not gain over 20hp. most people who want real power spend about 5k on boost which will give you about 75-100 hp or swap an RSX-S engine which is about 8k.
it sounds like you just want to have a very good handling car i think you should just get a older civic like a 92-95 hatch and work on that, its lighter still and with a 1.5 you wont spend much on gas and you could always get a si for vtec in the same year, the money saved can get you a pimp suspesion setup

yeah just about an pre 96 civic will do my friend has a 92 cx so far he just has springs, shocks, and sway bars and that thing rails way better than my other friends 89 bmw, he just swap a si engine in it from a 95 so it has some more go now but still i wish i got that car instead of a 7thgen
I like power too, don't get me wrong, but if I could make it a bit more tossable through some of my favorite backroads, I'm gonna do that. I like new cars, I pay for them, and I treat them very well. I don't want a car that some idiot had before me and treated like ****. After I finish schhol and get my money right, I'll get a better performer again.

rock on. well the 7th gen civics do have a nice stiff chassis and the suspension aftermarket is pretty decent. so you could have a pretty good handling car and put some decent bolt ons under the hood and you'd have a fun inexpensive car with good gas mileage and reliability.

if you like power then why get a 01+ civic? 92-95 are IMO the best choice for those who want power. anything and everything has been made for them to turn it into one fast car.
**** my friends 92 was in great condition, he got it off some old guy it had 75k on it, it was always and i mean always serviced when needed from the dealer, he got it for $2,500 with all the service paper work. when i first saw the car it looked showroom new and still today my friend takes great care of the car, all you have to do is look around and you can find a really good reliable car.

the only reasons to get an HX over your RSX are the gas mileage, bigger trunk, lower insurance and more interior space. HX will give you a lot less driving excitement than the RSX. If your goal is to save money, why didnt you choose the HX in the first place?

The HX is a good car. Getting rid of the RSX sounds like it makes a lot of sense right now. Just test drive it - a nice, long, varied test drive, and make sure the lack of power won't bug you. There is no way to fix it once you get it. No one buys an HX for performance, you get it for the fuel economy. If you just want handling though, it'd be a good little car.

at the time I wasn't a student and didn't think about becoming one again. I had a better job with more money and the note wasn't that bad. Times change and I have had the car for two years now, which with my smaller income amd three years left to pay on it is becoming more of a pain than the fun to drive factor can compensate for.
