What the hell is a Civic RS??

What the hell is a Civic RS??
I have been around Honda's a long time now and I have never heard of a Civic RS. I see on eBay all these emblems for it, and one of my neighbors has it on his car. I am assuming it is some JDM thing. Let me know, i have done google and yahoo searches. Please help!

but in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution RS model RS is defined as the lighter version of the standard Evolution, by about 145 pounds. the spoiler, air conditioning, vanity mirrors, ABS brakes, HID projectors, all the non essentials were thrown out the door. the car was also reinforced a tad bit more to offer stability in turns.
Would that suggest that a "Civic RS" would be stripped of 70% of its essentials in efford to lighten the load? or what?

EK3 : Civic Ferio 4dr 1999-2000 (Vi-RS model)
ES2 : Civic Ferio 4dr 2001-on (RS model)
all these models sported the RS Badge
The RS badge was first seen on the 1st Gen Civic that first used the Dual Carb engine. That was a breakthru technology then. It mean "Road Sailing" for its smooth road going nature.
Now on the Vi-RS the RS has emerged because if you drove that car you would know why. The Multimatic box(HMM) gives the feeling of smooth stepless transmission (no gear changes) and hence the name RS. But there were manual versions of the Vi-RS too. Smoothness came from the 3Stage Vtec.

I don't know, but I believe in Japan, they're on Ferio's which is the sedan version. It's a trim level. I don't think they offer it on the current version.

Rep Power: 0 So i can get an RS grill and just have the H without the RS? Thats what I would want. Do the ebay versions allow for removing the "RS"?

never was and never will be unless japan decides to ever make a civic coupe and release it in their market. i guess people just like to put rs grills on their cars

Rep Power: 0 Actually, I believe "RS" originally came from the German "rennsport" which means "racing".
No offence, but road sailing doesn't make much sense for a car which has sporting intentions. Otherwise they'd be badging Buicks and Oldsmobiles "RS" left and right.
