Good book to learn about engines..

Hey everyone, ok im planning to do a swap on my car and dont know much about engines. Ive done a few things here and there but nothing serious with the engine. I just started saving up for it and it will take me a while to save up enough, so I have plenty of time to learn(5k). If anyone can reccomend a book for me i would really appreciate it. I probably wont be doing the engine swap but I just want to learn more of how everything works. Any reccomendations are appreciated, thanks.

I tried looking at a bookstore, and most of the engine books and engine swapping books are about old school muscle...

Theres a K20 swap in the DIY section. I dunno how detailed you were looking to go, but its a good place to start.

Yeh I checked that out, what im looking for is a book on basic engines....just explaining the parts thouroughly and what they do...doesnt have to be about a civic engine.

Well if you really want to get into the theory behind engines then I can highly recommend "Introduction to Internal Combustion Engines" by Richard Stone. I believe the 3rd addition is the latest version. I will warn you though, this book is used as a text book for a mechanical engineering course on IC engines. It may be better to start with something a bit less technical, but it is a good resource if your really get into it.

It starts off with the basics of combustion and how energy is produced within an engine. You may be better off with a book that teaches the components and the physical aspect of how engines work. Then if you decide you want to delve into the science of what is going on inside an engine go ahead and get that book. I'm an engineering student and I have to admit it is rather challenging reading. All depends on how far you want to go. I can't think of any good books that teach the basics. I could use one too, I know more about the theory than I do actual working engines. Kind of a bass ackwards approach. Good luck

Total Automotive Technology, 4th Edition
by Schwaller
ISBN: 1401824765

This is a great book at covers everything you'd want to know about a car.
Covers other things like automotive supply & demand, knowing your tools, and and shop safety.

I have the 3rd Edition which I used in my autoshop class in high school.

I highly recommend it.

The Honda Service Manual from www.handaaccessories.com

I have that.. it tells you how to take out your engine, and everything else to do with your car..

Then get a small book from books-a-million or barnes and noble on how an engine works.
