But i also heard it wastes alot of gas.....some say they dont see anything with regards to gas mileage....so about now im totally confused !! i drive a 2003 auto civic si (ex in the states) and if i put a CAI on is it gonna kill my gas or make it better??
some saying more air=more gas...and others are disagreeing...can somebody help me this ??
Agian im sorry if im asking the same question again.....i apologize and it will greatly appreciated if u guys coulod help me out

Basically gas mileage gets decreased b/c when you install it, you cant help but mash on the gas to hear that awesome intake sound. People just tend to drive a little harsher when they install a cai ot sri. I have a sri and if I drive normally I still get my 32-33mpg.

it def doesn't do much in the hp gains (2-5 hp im guessing). and as far as the gas mileage i didnt notice n e difference in mine and i keep track of it. more air doesn't mean that ur car is going to compensate for it (sending more fuel).
i think all these guys having gas probs is the fact there beating there car more often (trying to hear the intake) and runnin to redline more often. hence the more gas usage.
if u wanna hear the intake take off the silencer box on the intake (big black box closest to the battery). now u have a intake sound, as much hp gains as the cold air or close (cuz we all know its a joke), ur safe cuz the filter is in the box directly on top of the throttle body, and it didn't cost u a dime.

so a CAI is basically useless then....then why are ppl buying it and putting in there engine...... wouldnt be a waste of money ??? i thought it helped to get air into the car easier...but if it doesnt do much why get it other than for looks ?? cuz im not gonna be driving around with my hood up showing pple what i got (or dont got) in my engine
It has been determined that adding a cai or sri that more air isnt added. Air is just added easier. Think about it the engine can only handle so much air at once. Its a confined area where would the extra air go? Perhaps maybe if you bored the head out this might be possible, but no adding a cai or sri doesnt add more air, and therefore more fuel isnt added to compensate.

I wouldnt say it was useless...I have a sri and I do notice some gains in the high end, but def lost some low end. Plus it sounds pretty cool. If you really think its a waste just get the sri, its about half the price and does the same thing.

not worth it unless like u said ur showing off ur motor all the time...
u wanna b fast save ur money and get a turbo thats the only intake system that works.

Yeah as long as his car is an si as well. I'd say go for it, what exactly is he charging you. Also make sure it is a cai. The cai will wrap down by the transmission down near the front bumber. If the filter is visible in plain sight then its just a short ram intake and hes trying to screw you.
http://automobiles.honda.com/models/...rDetected=True Thats what the SI in the US looks like. Is this what you have?
