ok, i know the topic has been posted and people have gone on several stories of how they totaled thier car and how tradgic it is....so, if you havent realized it already, i totaled my car...however, im asking the help of all 7th gener's out there with some advice. 2 months ago i...well...hit a curb ...but thats besides the point. my airbags deployed and only the front right wheel went over the curb. this resulted in a car that was still drivable but definatley needed some work. so, my car went to the shop and 2 months ago...2 MONTHS AGO goes in...the adjuster had to come out several times and all along i was led to believe my car would be repaired; the mechanic kept telling me 1 1/2 more weeks...1 1/2 more weeks...ultimately after all was said and done i find out now, 2 months later that the car is totaled. i work two jobs and am in school full time...the time that has been wasted without a car is a tremendous amount. what im wondering is a)why would an adjuster who is paid thousands of dollars to assess damaged cars for a living not be able to know what a totaled car looks like and b)do i have any legal recourse for all of this mess (i.e. the shop keeping my car only to be totaled 2 fvkin months later)............sorry if this is a mess of ideas, im just livid over this whole mess and want answers from people who have totally ruined my life for the past two months....thx

well most of the insurance here in mexico haves the option that they could or would give u a car if you request it, while they fix yours....

thats what i was thinking b/c the mechanic said it was right on the border line of being totaled for the value of the car. i mean, this is very annoying...and i dont really know what to do...i really dont want to toal it because i have tons of time invested in ICE and ill have to pull out all the wiring, which means dash has to come off and i have to pull up the seats for the input wires...ARRRRRGH, help!

what does GAP insurance cover on a civic that is slightly under 8 months old with approximatley 6 thousand miles on it....

Gap Insurance is for. If you have a financed car and it gets totaled out. And say you owe 10k on it and its only worth say 6k. Your regular insurance will pay 6k and the gap insurance fills the GAP and pays the other 4k. So you owe nothing.

ohhhh niiiiice, my car WAS financed and i did get the GAP insurance, so that should cover me, so that i owe nothing.....(correct???) if so, this would be a savoir....i hate this mess so much, thx for the help!!!!

Ya it will pay off what the insurance wont. But you wont have anything left for a down payment for a new car. I just went thru it a month ago.

ya its kinda a pain...my car got flooded by the recent attacks on florida from hurricanes. Geico my insurance was out the next day after it happened said it was gonna be totalled 2 days later they cut a check to my finance company. And on the 4th day after my car got flooded I drove off a lot with a 04 civic. So it wasnt that much of a pain for me.

Ok something seems way off with your story. How the hell do you deploy airbags by going up over a curb??? If it was just the tire that hit your sensors wouldnt have told the bags to deploy. Also if it was just you in the car the passenger side wouldnt have deployed, and even if by some chance they did deploy thats no where near enough damage to consider a car totaled...especially if it was still driveable after the fact. I dunno is it just me or do I smell

lol, i didnt just rub up against a curb...i ran over it going about 30-35mph....just front right wheel....no passengers no wieght in the passengers seat...i dont know the mechanics of it all (to be honest it all happened quite quickly)...all i know is 2 months later, im livid about this whole thing. i have no reason to make up any part of this, bottom line is that im trying to get answers to a situation that has spun out of control....one minute my car is going to be repaired...and im led to believe this all along. then next thing i know.....TOTALED!, its not fun man...

oh and theres damage to the "cradle" as i understood it, so its suspension stuff as well as some body work to fix the door that is pinched from the damage to the suspension...

lol, my new ride is far off...my insurance company will prolly drop me and y rates will go up till im 25. thats already clear through my insurance agent...aside from that ill have to get a used car....which sucks....and deal with picking up a new insurance plan...not fun and im not enjoying any part of it

How were you able to drive a car around with deployed airbags and that kinda damage?

it happened close to where i lived, the car was definatley vearing waaaaaay off to the right...as far as ive been informed airbags are hit or miss, ive seen stories on this board where people shouldve had airbags go off and they didnt, but as far as one side going off and the other not going off, ive never heard of that. oh and the motor wasnt damaged in any way aaaaaand no other damage was on the body, only other damage is form the passenger side airbag hitting the window...which cracked the glass and there are spider web cracks coming out from that

i mean it wasnt anything beautiful, BUT it was still drivable and all the internals were and still are intact...what im trying to figure out is not why i was able to drive the car, but instead why there was such gross negligence (sP?) in the adjuster looking at this car and assessing the damage...i mean why someone gets paid for a living to do this and not be able to look at a car and figure out if its been totaled; is beyond me...

also, theres something fishy about the how the body shop is handling this, its out of my sight for months now, and all this damage is suddenly found as they dig deeper...ARRRRRRRRGH

also, i just found out that all the storage fees may be my responsibility...in which case im going to sue the pants off any and everyone responsible...dont you just love america!!??!
