thoughts on benz c240?
my friend is about to buy one tomorrow. Does anyone have any negative or possitive about this? He went from the sti to the s2000 to now the benz.
with all th eoptions added, such as the lighting package, sunroof package ect. the price is a little more then 37,000 i believe. the dealer said he can give him about 10,000 bux from his 2003 honda civic hx with 17,500 miles on it. then take about 1,200 off of the car? bringing the car to about 36,000 (without the lighting package)? What would be a good price to pay for this car? the dealer said 1,200 off the price was as good as he could do, however, he sounded very comfortable about that price, like he was getting the better end. He also said since they don't have the exact car at their dealership, they have to locate one, which adds 750 bux? Does getting a car from another dealership actually add that much? and i think 36,250 with the lighting package (7000) would be a good deal, what do u think! also, the dealership is in west chester, and it is a 25 million dollar dealership with a store, cafe thing, basement with cars, ect, and was one of the best benz dealerships in the country... certainly not a honda dealership

...Does he realize that the C class is Mercedies Introdutory car??? meaning that it is the cheepest thing they make. Not a bad car, but for 36,000 your paying more for the name then the car.... also, make sure he asks about mantence, becaues there is Nothing on the car that the owner can work on... (The dip stick is about an inch long, and the cars computer will tell you when it needs/wants and oil change or any other service) Basically, the only thing the owner can check is the Wiper fluid.
yea, he knows the c class are the cheapest benz's, all the other classes are out of his range. the E class goes into the upper 40s, which is the next class up! and the maybach is 300,000 . He wants to go for the luxary look, hes not too worried about performance. He wants to get chrome rims, system, tint.. ect

i like the c class especially the new headlights they have now, i hated the plastic looking cheap headlights they have before, now it looks hotter with the clear and hids.
it doesn't come with HIDs, u have to get them in the upgrade package! they aren't call HID's either, they are something else, im not sure if they are HID's with a different name or what. they are called BI-XENON headlamps? are those the same as HIDS?
yea, he doesn't really like the way the bmw looks. I don't think benz's are pos, they must be pretty well made right? they are benz's, but i don't really know that much about them.. but people say everything are POS if they dont' like them

He is the head mechanic of Mercedes where I live and he says they are biggest POS's he's worked on. He said he would never buy a Benz due to so much going wrong with them.
I'm always a big fan of Benz. The C240 is a nice car but I don't think it's really worth it though for the price. Lately Benz doesn't make their cars as good & as well made as it used to be for some reason. I believe Benz & BMW have the most recalls lately.
i dont know? he wanted a s2000 but his parents won't let him get one, or they won't put it in their name and the insurance in their name and stuff, cuz they heard it was really bad. I guess he just wants a pimp ride. are benz's really that unreliable? its not the supercharged one and hes not going to race it or anything, do u think thatll be a real problem?
the reliability of Benzes isn't very good compared to something like a Lexus or a BMW.
To this day I still can't figure out why anyone would want to plop a whole lot of $$ on something like a benz or a jaguar. it looks pompous and snobby and it looks like a bad expenditure when you realize they aren't that great of a car.

i know, but seriously, if i posted this in a benz forum, wouldn't people praise the car? Don't u think its not very accurate info to post about other cars in other forums, cuz of course people are going to be bias
Its gay. My family has had 7 Mercedes, not one problem -- but, that is the cheapest, econo-box mercedes made. I hate the way it looks, I hate the way it drives...I just hate it.
Tell him to get a g35 in a manual. Tell him not be a *****, automatics are gay.

It's a nice car, but if it was called anything other than a Mercedes-Benz, people wouldn't even think about paying a dollar over $30,000. I think he can find a nicer car for a better price. I'd go with a used E-class, or if he really wants to be a baller... a slightly older S-class.

Europe: Few standouts. Relatively few European cars did well. The handful showing average or better reliability are the BMW 3 Series, the Saab 9-3 and 9-5, and all Volvos except the XC90 SUV.
But all Mercedes-Benz models were below average, as were all Audis, Jaguars, Land Rovers, and the BMW 7 Series, X5 SUV, and Mini Cooper.
Volkswagen continued losing ground, with the Golf, Jetta, New Beetle, and four-cylinder Passat all worse than average. Many of the problems can be attributed to the ignition coils in the 1.8T engine shared by those cars.

my mom had a C class when they came out
Then changed to a beamer after her lease was up... She REALLY misses the c240! She interior space difference is huge. the c class has much more room and a 3 series.
She had the top of the line C240, so no cloth seats or anything like that, all leather upholstery.
Anyways, only problem was that things would burn out quickly. Lights were always burning out, and it was a hassle cuz every few weeks it went back to the dealership to get new ones. Maybe theyve fixed that problem by now, cuz she got it when it was just introduced. She loved the feel of that car and misses it like crazy. Good car, and if they've fixed the frequent burnouts of the lights, amazing car IMO and IMMO (in my moms opinion!)
Oh, one more problem, it accumulated way more brake dust than Ive ever see on any car. Nice rims, but too much brake dust. Ah well, just means hes gotta give the c class its deserved time!

Let me tell you my experince with mercedes since I work there, they are pimp cars, but I dont think I would ever get one. 90% of the cars who come into the dealer have mechanical problems, not engine or normal wear and tear ****. Everyday I am in the shop getting cars for customers and what not, a majority of the cars in there are having seat problems, window problems, sunroof and door problems. And every customer I have talked to who comes in for service, always have problems mechanical ****.
Also there suspensions arent thaty great. that is the other thing alot of cars are in there for. Customers complain about too many problems with suspension.
I say do look at a BMW or something else. But after seeing how many problems mercedes have, It makes buying luxury cars go down the pooper. My civic has had less problems then most of the mercedes have at less miles.
For example, there is this lady who had a 03 C230, with only 19k miles on it, already has had it in the dealer 9 times, 3 times for suspension, and the rest for seat problems, and electrical ****. She was there on thursday and told me that she is planning on asking mercedes to give her a new car, she is so fed up with having to bring here car in on a weekly basis. she says she will either do that or trade it in and get a cheaper car. She said she has no respect for mercedes cars now.
Tell your friend to go with something else.
