best magazines?
What's your picks for best car magazines in the following areas?
1. aftermarket tuning
2. general car information and discussion
3. exotics
mine would be:
1. Modified Magazine...they cover domestic vs. import, drag vs. drift vs. autocross, and forced induction vs. displacement...I've seen aftermarket cars from just about every venue possible (I find that magazines like Import Tuner can become one-sided by only covering subsections of racing)
2. road and track...when looking at a new car review, I go to one stat and one stat only: standing 1/4 mile. if its not what I would define as 'good' for that kind of car, I immediately turn the page and read no more...their numbers are as close to accurate as any I've seen...and they always seem to have the scoop no one else has
3. exotic modified mag...what good are bone stock exotics?

RT sucks. They only test a couple of cars a month and they talk a lot about motorsports that i dont care. But i like its technical correspondence and data chart is pretty comprehensive. i prefer motor trend or car and driver.

mmmm...yeah, I like the 1/4 mile and 0-60 times (honestly, it's the first, and only thing I look at when reading anyone's review)...I have found that road and track's numbers in those two stats are usually very accurate
I find them to be more of a sophisticated magazine than car and driver or motor trend, I dunno why

but any way, I like Grassroots motorsports, simply because its not a "Fluf" auto magazine. They cover Amature, semi Pro and Pro racing, and have Plenty of tech articles that are actually usefull.
http://www.grmotorsports.com/
Such as
Corner weighting your car http://www.grmotorsports.com/cornerweight.html
Racings top 10 Driving mistakes http://www.grmotorsports.com/topten.html
ect
http://www.grmotorsports.com/techmain.php
Things that people who actualy take their car and run them around a track (Be it autocross, Open track, or wheel to wheel Spec racing) would find usefull. Rather then the Bling/Fluf you find in most tuner mags.
They also have a handfull of Inhouse project cars, were they built each one for various reasions/applications
http://www.grmotorsports.com/projectcarupdate.php
There is a D-Stock SRT-4 project car in there you may want to look at

perhaps I said that wrong...when looking at the spec sheet on a car I don't give a crap about (such as the SUV yearly reviews...pfft who cares), I look at the 0-60 mph and 1/4 mile times and laugh. then I turn the page.
for a car I don't know jack about when I'm first reading the article, like mercedes-benz, which I take great pride in not knowing jack **** about, I look to those two stats. if they are sub-6 and sub-14, respectively, I read further. if they are not, I laugh at how slow they are and turn the page.
when reading about a car I do give a damn about (mostly sport-compact), I read the 1/4 mile and 0-60 first, then the curb weight, HP and torque ratings, 0-100 mph time, slalom times, etc. etc. etc.
either way, I'm a drag racer...there is nothing more important to me than the 1/4 mile time. period.
I like looking at the pics in modified mag, not reading the articles. some of the info sections are pretty good but the "brag about my car" sections are kinda stupid considering that most of them have 7 digits worth of appearance mods and 10 dollars worth of performance mods...

i used to subscribe to motor trend, but i like R&T also. theyre both interesting reads...like their comparisson testing and stuff like that. just interesting to read. i also get mazda sport (which used to be called miata magazine)...its for miata owners and more. its pretty interesting.
i dont read a lot of tuner magazines, but super street is ok i think. havent checked out modified. MAX is good because it has boobies in it.
its a brit magazine.
as for "exotic"...we get the BMW magazine at home. its a very good magazine thats all about BMWs. i wouldnt call it exotic, but whatever.

never read super street, but some of my friends do and it's supposedly pretty popular magazine...I'll have to pick one up sometime

does anyone know if there is an "official" NHRA or NDRA magazine?
I'm reading a bunch of these and trying to piece together how the season is going for a bunch of different classes...very confusing
