bmw z4 vs. s2000

bmw z4 vs. s2000
what are ur thoughts? i would assume the s2000 has better handling, however, is the z4 fasteR? its a v6 that puts down more torque, however, less hp then the s2000. this may sound stupid, but if torque wins races, by getting u off the line faster (i assume) then will a car with more horsepower be faster off a roll?thanks

Rep Power: 0 Both are just as fast; day to day street encounters, straight line, it'll be a pretty even race. I would assume the s2000 would have the edge though.
BMW makes a 2.5L and 3.0(the one you are talking about), also they are not v6, they are inline-6s

Rep Power: 0 Inline 6 is when all the cylinders are lined up, like an "I"
V6 is when all the cylinders are arranged in a V-shaped pattern with 3 cylinders on each side. I hope that makes sense.

Rep Power: 0 Are you looking to buy one of these? If I were you I would pass on a new z4 or a new s2000. Go for a used s2000 or a bmw m-roadster.
if you can find a 2001+ M roadster it has 315hp and same exact engine as the 333hp e46 bmw. More hp than s2000 and z4 and $10k cheaper than new one!

Rep Power: 0 It would be a close race between an s2000 and a m-roadster. the 2001 did 0-60 in 5.4 and the 2002 was upgraded with the new m3 engine, clocking 5 seconds flat.
The M had more torque and more hp but the s2000 would prob be right on the bmw's ***. I have never driven a s2000 but i have driven the M. It has a very flat powerband and is easy to drive fast.
I would love to see them match up at the touge!

Just pick one. Z4 vs S2k vs Porsche Boxter... Top Gear tested the three cars. They all ran nearly the same time on the track with less than a few tenths of a second difference. If I'm not mistaken, in order from fastest to slowest... Boxter, Z4, S2k.

the video has a e36 m3 vs a s2000. i've raced acouple z3 but i dont know if they are 2.5 or 3.0s. all i know is that i walked on one but i consider these races to be drivers races(unless it was a M version). i've also walked on z4s and boxters. just my .02!
but in my opinion it would be cheaper to mod up a s2000. i found my s2k for 20k used. with the money i saved im fixing on getting the engine s/c by next summer! hopefully.....

. I beat one with my jdm gsr (stock) swapped hatch. Boxster S is pretty nice but for the money ewww. I don't know about S2000 killing z3/z4 but my friend has a 04 s2k we have beat all z4s 2.5, 3.0l. M roadster is another story we raced a pre 2001 so the slower ones (240hp,236tq) and we beat him by about a car. 2001+ M roadster are damn fast his actually thinking of trading in his s2k for that car. The coupes are so much nicer than the roadster

You can find the video. Top Gear Episide 11-02-2003. The track was also a wet track. The actual times were:
Z4: 1:37:6
S2k: 1:37:4
Boxter: 1:37:0
None of these cars are made for straightline speed.
There's really no point in drag racing them to highlight their weak points. In my opinion, it's also not worth fixing up either cars - especially for drag racing... especially the S2000. Last edited by SlammedBlueEM2; Sep 27, 2004 at 02:52 AM.
