Audi A4 1.8T
Has anyone driven this car or heard any thing about it? I saw one driving the other day that was possibly the coolest looking modded car I have seen.
Theres more to a car that all out acceleration.
The A4 is a great car...luxurious, quiet smooth ride, good handling and has enough pep to it to keep most people happy. The 3.0 liter V6 is quick.

Yes its a nice car, there hot cars. What year?? i personnally like the 98,99 style. But i tink the S4 is the way to good, hell yeah. I almost bought a 1.8 A4 there fun and great to drive i recommend it!!
I know all about them!
Let me give you some valuable advice about European cars especially VW and Audi. DON'T BUY ONE! I had a VW, my wife had a VW and my brother had a VW, and just sold his mofified A4 last weekend. The electrical systems are terrible, mechanics can never figure them out, not even the dealers that sell them. The list goes on and on. I was a die hard VW and Audi fan until I had mine for about 6 months and hated it. Sensors will go off for no reason, parts that get no wear and tear will go out. I can't beg you enough to stay away from them, you will be disappointed. There is no doubt that they are tunable, but the miniscule benfits do not outweigh the problems. If you have any question about some of the stuff I went through with them, PM me or e-mail me and I'll be glad to talk to you. Good luck!
The A4s Are Slow...i Got A 96...2.8q And Ive Driven The 1.8t And They Are Both Great Rides. Very Nice...but Not Quick...ive Heard The 1.8ts Respond Well To Chips And Other Stuff But I Dunno...also Heard Very Costly To Fix...
I wanted to buy an Audi before I bought the civic, but i couldnt afford it so thats why i'm driving the civic, which i'm totally happy with. But the new A4's and S4's are the ****. Yeah the last generation A4 1.8t's with body kit/lowered/wheels look sweet as hell. They are sharp cars.
.
. The next A4 (05 or 06, not sure) will be be a 2.0T. I ride with my friend to work every day in one. A 1.8T will be a little faster that the 3.0 once you chip it. You can Mod the hell out of them, and still keep them nice looking. My friend debadged his car, added an M3 style lip (spoiler), chip (1.2bar) and has front S4 brakes (and the sport package). Its a sick car, not the fastest thing on the road (his 350Z would have smoked it) but its all wheel drive which is a must in MA.
Also, because of a recent 'sludge' problem, as long as you maintain oil changes (documented) every 5,000 miles, your engine will come with an 8 yr warrantee. They are expensive as hell to fix, but most cars are when you go up to that quality.

The 2003+ A4 looks really sick. I love that car, and personally I don't give a s*it theire not that fast. Looks 100 times better than the civic, and both the 1.8t and the 3.0v6 are faster...I'm gonna keep that car in mind for my next car. Too bad its soo expensive.
Last time I had this much fun some furniture got broken!

If anyone has questions about some of the problems people have had about VW and Audi, go to carreview.com and see for yourself. They might look cool but they are junky, and if you do end up owning one, you will come back to Honda or Acura. I did.

the 2.8 V6 engine is horrible. A lot of problems with that engine.
The new 3.0 V6 is much better.
If you are thinking about an A6, the 2.7T is the way to go.

Ya I agree about the TSX over the 1.8. I drove both and thought the TSX felt the same, maybe a bit more responsive off the line. Plus you get more toys with the TSX and it is not as much to modify as the 1.8. HOWEVER, the new Legacy GT from Subaru is over the TSX in my mind. Much, much quicker and I personally like the ride quality of the Legacy much better. And your able to use most of the STI mods since it is the same engine but with a smaller turbo.
The car has enough punch to get you where you want to go. It's a luxury sport sedan and it does what it is supposed to do. Interior fit and finish is probably the best I've seen. Exterior styling is untouchable too. Although my friend's Audi keeps having problems.

My pops has a 2003 VW jetta with the 1.8t and its a hell of alot faster than my vic, I know the audi's have like 10 less hp than the 1.8t jetta but Im sure its still alot faster than our vic's (stock for stock). Plus my old man has had VW's for the past 8 years, leases a new one every 3 years and has had NO major problems. I think your better off getting an Audi or VW compared to any domestic for reliability issues. just my $0.02
I have never had any problems with my 1.8t. Granted it's only been 1 year, but the car has been great. It's been chipped since 2k and making over 200whp. Not all Vw's are built in Mexico, some are built in Brazil and Germany.

I have lots of friends that are loyal owners of all kinds of VW and Audis. Other than routine issues (brakes, stuff that is supposed to wear out), they've all been quite reliable. The A4 is a different class of car - it cannot be compared to a Civic. TSX to A4 is appropriate, and it'd be hard to make the decision. Both are quite nice.
had one, a 2001 1.8t, it was chipped and i would walk most 2.8 and some 3.o, integras and such that were not heavily mod'd were nothing. The car had great torque with the chip......but i unfortunatly blew 2 engines......and the dealership could not figure it out. the post above is right the electrical is CRAP!!!!
as for the fun of driving.....go for it! AWESOME CAR how i miss it even if i had some major prob. plus they are oooh sooo sexy mod'd the b5 platform is my fav still (96-01)

I used to work for Audi/VW/Porsche/Panos....and if you notice I drive a Japanese car, and most of the tech's at the dealer drove Japanese cars. The only people that drove Audis were the salesman and that is because they were demo's.
That should tell you something right there. Don't get me wrong...there is nothing like driving a German car....espeically an Audi/ Porsche.....but that is only when it is running...When it doesnt have electrical problems, shorts etc....or when the car is not in the shop for a blown clutch, or a blown transmission. Also when I worked at porsche from 1997-2000.....Every week we would have between 5 and 8 boxters and 996's in the shop needing new engines. They are garbage. I dont know how the quality of these cars has improved over the years....but I still see plenty of people who bought Vw's, Audi's and Porsches who say they are unhappy with their purchase....Before you buy I would think about it more.
