if you had to buy just one...
If I was just going to use it as a weekend car, 350z. It's not practical as a daily driver since it has no back seat and a rather cramped interior IMO.
If it was a daily driver, STi since I live in New England the AWD will help in the snow, and its got enough power to have some fun with. I would definitely take that damn spoiler off though.
If I had my choice of cars though, it would be a Jeep Grand Cherokee, Liberty, or Wrangler.

STi for me, since it fits practicality and power, and the AWD doesn't hurt where I live either. The rest of them would be cool too, but they wouldn't be a daily driver for me (maybe the Evo)...
As Yukonart said, there has to be some sort of purpose behind the purchase, other than just merely "looking good".

very well put, versitility is the advantage in these 2 monsters, but personally i wouldnt pick either. id get their big brothers EVOVI or the STI-RA(for those of you who dont know, this is a production car like the Nismo 400R)but since thats not and option id say S2000, behold the N/A power

Honda S2000!! Looks so d@mn sexy! S2k with a turbo you'd be saying STI who? Haha, jk
You know what. All you guys will be driving the all wheel drive and I'm gonna have to go with the rear. IS 300 all the way!! That engine probably has the most potential out of that group. The potential will come with the biggest price tag though. I mean, it's almost a 2JZ engine with a different head. Give me that luxury look with a FAT *** turbo any day.

Big power? Big-*** turbo with so much lag, the only way you'd make any use of it would be on a dragstrip?
You see. . . this is what I'm getting at, people. WHY WHY WHY?
WHY do you want to do that to the car you choose? In this case, I'm going to guess street race, since no other meaning was presented. Fat-*** turbo for dragging, and luxury to cruise on the street. Drag cars don't come as heavy as the IS300, track cars don't use fat-*** turbos. And I have yet to see an IS300 at any of my local autocross events. And rallying. . . . please.
I'm not knocking your selection in any way. Just looking for real justification. All the engines on the list have a LOT of potential. Just depends on what you want to do with it. There are a few Subarus (especially in Australia) laying down in excess of 1000hp. Guess what they're used for. . . . drag racing. Guess how much was sunk into the engine . . . many more times what the car was worth in the first place. Any engine can have all the potential in the world if you throw enough money at it.
Granted the Toyota inline 6 is EASY to mod. Doesn't mean it comes cheap. The EJ257 is NOT easy to mod. . . but it does respond well to them. Even the S2000's engine can be really well-built . . . just have to take a different approach.
Come on guys. . . . let's see some reasoning. I should create a user title for myself. "Car Buying ****."

Damn Steak. . . I wasn't slamming you, just looking for some clarification.

Say what you want about the other cars (very few "kids" own STis) . . . . my opinions on people not having reasons behind their car purchases still stand.

STi.
on the outside, my car already has the potential to look like the STi (sans the humongous gaping hoodscoop large enough to swallow kitty cats and the wing that's so big, it doesn't pass inspection in VA
). the engine is the same size (2.5 liter). only thing my car is missing is a turbo.
the impreza (2.5, WRX, STi) line in itself is such an awesome car! very, very fun to drive! so I already know that i would much rather drive an STi than any of those other cars listed.

EVO 8.
From all the reviews and comparisons I've read it sounds like an awesome all around car. Not to say the others are bad cars though, I'd gladly take any of them.
And no, I didn't choose the EVO just because its not sold in Canada.

I agree, youre right, a lot of civic owners, and for that matter, a lot of "kids" want a turbo... however, most of themonly want one to be cool and say, "Yo its a turbo VTEC yo!"
a lot of them dont even know how they work
a perfect example is, i know one member for sure(wont say names) has a turbo on his car. said he was runnin a T3/T4 hybrid i believe, said he had lag to 4500rpm. i heard another memeber, running n/a, was hangin right with him.
if he had known anything about turbos, he would have
1. he would have know that the turbo was WAY to big for a lil 1.7L engine,
2. he would have searched around for a kit that had the right one,
3. he would have had it installed right
4. he would have had it tuned...
i can go on and on,
sorry for going off topic
end rant

man,
S2K. It sounds the best and looks the best IMO. I wouldn't need to mod it further than suspension but I'd be reluctant. I hear it's suspension is perfect.
I've rode in an STi before, and redlining each gear from 0-60 happens very quick. You'd be in 3rd in no time. I wouldn't buy the STi because it's so... unattractive. The brakes look sick. It's an excellent car but not my style on the outside.
I don't like the 350Z. The interior is cheap. It looks good (I think the roadster version is ugly) and it's a nice car but not something I'd put my wallet into. I might change my mind if I got behind the wheel or someone threw me around in one.
The IS300 is beginning to show it's age. I find it weird that this car is on the list as it doesn't even break 14s. But hey, it's not a straightline car. I would not buy the IS300. This one's at the bottom of the list. I won't take it's potential in consideration because if I had to compare this car to the others stock for stock, this one would lose. I'd rather save for the GS430 if it comes in manual.
EVO8... I dunno, I'm just not into rally cars although I do like rally. If someone threw the STi and EVO at me for free, I'd take the EVO just because it's more pleasant to the eye for me. Every time I see either car on the street, I'm reminded of the other instantaneously as if I'm looking at the same damn car.
So the S2k... 2k4s looks sick as hell when slammed on the stock wheels.

S2000 if it was just me, i was out of college and i didnt have crap to carry around...or i had another vehicle like a truck to do that
STi more than likely though, fast, handles great, and you can store tons of crap/people in it, its more economical...not to mention, that huge spoiler!!! haha, thatd be the first thing to go

subaru wrx sti - I am really considering one of these for my next car. The reason is that it would make a great daily driver for Michigan in both the summer and winter and I really like the design of the WRX.
mitsubishi evo 8 - No because I am not a Mitsu. fan at all and just don't care for the design of the EVO. Yes, they may be fast but wait until the drivetrai gives way.
honda s2000 - I am also considerign one of these for my next car but most likely won't do to the fact I would need another car for winter and insurance is going to be higher on a 2 door convertible sports.
nissan 350z - I absolutely hate these things. I think they are one of the ugliest cars on the road. However, I would take it's Infiniti brother anyday.
lexus is300 - This is tough because I love Lexus. This would be my first pic I think. Than the STi followed by the S2000.
