News on the 05 RSX Type S
I work for Acura as a salesman and we just got the 2005 RSX brochure. We aren't allowed to show them to anyone until September, but I won't let that happen!!! I am bringing home the brochure tomorrow night and I plan on taking pics of it to show off the 05's new headlights, taillights and bumpers/side skirts.... The pics will be up tomorrow night. There are some spy shots of blueprints that I've seen.... but this is the real deal.
The tech changes are 200 > 210 HP! They changed the intake cam and streamlined the intake manifold to make it happen. It also redlines 200 RPM later... 7900 > 8100. My guess is they simply used the Type R intake cam and manifold and tuned accordingly.
Also, New changes are the gauge cluster... the bezels look more like the 03/04 Civics... With a bezel and a recessed gauge face.... except much better looking. The seats are still a solid back design, no doubt reskined Recaros like the current RSX seat. However, these seats have a prominent headrest bulge, almost as if the headrest melted into the seatback. Its kinda cool, but I like the current RSX seat better. Outside... it FINALLY GETS 17" WHEELS. After all this time, they are offering a 5-spoke 17" wheel as standard fare - regular or Type S. The A-Spec wheels are the same. I can't really describe the bumpers, except they are good looking.
There are no other major changes of note... The car carries over as 90% the same machine it currently is, just a bit more refined. And still no HIDs.

They didn't tell us how much it will be yet... Expect about another $1000, but probably less...
And BTW I forgot a big one... NEW COLORS! They replaced Desert Silver with Mangesium from the 2004 Civic. It is the color that all the brochure pictures are taken in... because its awsome. But the real news..... Orange Pearl. Its a rusty looking orange, kinda like the Element, but darker. Its got hints of Imola Orange Pearl from the NSX... but The NSX color is lighter. This is a darker color, at least according to the printed ink of the brochure. Can't wait to see it in real life.

Well someone else doesn't care as much about the rules as you...

Been posted for a while. They made the front end look like the TL/TSX, clearly going for a brand image... and I think the old front end looked better.

After looking at that honda-tech link again and thinking about it, its not worth it for me to photograph it... my store just got the brochures too late then. But it's the count that thoughts. If anyone has any questions about it directly, I do sell Acuras for a living so lemme know.

That looks really yummy! Something to consider for when I am done with my Vic.. It actually looks bigger than the RSX, is it?
This guy on ClubRSX had some contemplations about the '05 RSX:
A brief look at the 2005 RSX yields these impressions:
- headlights seem blacked out (at least it looks that way) and taillights redded out, so it looks like new owners won't have to go through that expense anymore.
- both head and taillights loose the "BMW-style" rounded intrusions into the bumpers beneath. The change is look-neutral to my eyes, but it'll sure make the third-party body add-on vendors unhappy. Back to the drawing board for them.
- No more need to ditch the wimpy 16-inchers for 17-inchers. They are now standard, and with somewhat more appropriate rubber.
- Type-S now rated at 210 at 7800 rpm instead of 200 at 7400 rpm, and torque 143 at 7000 instead of 142 at 6000. Hmmm... did they change the intake manifold?
- Curb weight 2840 instead of 2767. Not good.
- Really interesting: final drive ratio now 4.77 instead of 4.389. That means 56.61 mph at 8000 rpm instead of 61.53. At the 8100 redline, the new one does 57.32 mph whereas the "old" model did 60.76 mph at its official redline of 7900. Will that mean that official 0-60 times are slower because of the necessary third shift? Overall, gas mileage may go down a bit because of the higher revs, but acceleration will overall be better (unless the weight negates it).
All in all I am not fond of relatively minor mid-life changes that change the game without really making much of an impact (unless they put in some other important stuff I haven't see yet).

To answer some questions: It is the same body... they only changed the front and rear bumpers - everything else carries over (think 04 Civic change from 01-03 Civic). I do get a discount, I can get cars for invoice. And hawk.... your car as sick as it is, is probably worth **** as a trade - dealers wouldn't be able to Certify your car.
