If Honda doesn't do something about it, it will be the last time I buy a car from them.

maybe its just because the minorities would pay it. I got an "out the door" price from the dealers when I was shopping around. I saved $3000 dollars by not agreeing to the first dealers price. Maybe the whites would deal more. Everyone is too ready to cry racism. I know a black guy that hooks his friends up with sports merchandise. I pay more for the same product when I shop there, I should sue!

Im not well versed with business, financing, loans and etc. I design. My dad has his MBA though.
Havent you heard of Redlining? (Not your fucking car, dweeb
)
The discrimination of minorities who are looking for finacial aid/help and benefits (loans, property, mortgage, etc.).
I knew Nissan did it, but WTF! The companies who did it are American anyway.
What do you expect? You cant soli (<m-w.com?) blame the manufacturer.

This is why you shop around before signing. How can you sue a dealer when you signed to pay the rediculous mark up/finance rate. Dealers screw everybody, this is just somebody blaming everyone else for their screw up.

This would be an example of reverse redlining - targeting these same people for financing and charging high fees and/or interest rates. Reverse redlining is harder to spot, and is not illegal in all states (redlining is a federal crime). From the article the prof doing the study does not find any wrongdoing IMO. Just because a higher number of Blacks/Hispanics finance more of there cars doesn't necessarily mean they were taken advantage.

Good points. And welcome to the site.

Finance more?
I hope you're not implying that the 'white'/caucasian buyers didn't finance in this study. That would be a rather pointless finding then, lol. I believe the study is trying to display BOTH 'whites' and minorities who finance there automobiles.
With that said, minorities who finance in the end pay more for whatever reasons than 'whites' who finance.
First sentence/paragraph says enough:
American Honda Finance Corp. discriminated against African-American and Latino car buyers from 1999 to 2003 by allowing Honda dealers to charge minority buyers higher car-loan costs than they charged comparable white buyers, according to a study

"Mark A. Cohen, senior associate dean of the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn., reached his finding after examining loan records for 383,652 Honda customers nationwide. Attorneys for black plaintiffs in Tennessee, who are suing Honda, commissioned the report."
This is all you need to read to know that this is garbage. When a lawyer commisions a report to find something, 10 out of 10 times it'll be what he wants. THis is just some trumped up report by some shyuster looking to cash in. I hope Honda doesn't give in and settle with this douchebag.

oh god...Do you know how easy it is to buy/finance/lease/borrow in the USA period? It's way too fuggin easy.
In Canada if your credit is anything less than perfect you might as well shrivel up in the corner and die. We don't have companies agreeing to give us store credit even with the high interest they tack onto it.
Bottom line is usually. if you make **** money, they have to cover their ***. If you have a history of bad credit/non payments they have to cover their ***.
I don't buy the whole...black, white, whatever anymore.
Like somone said earlier...they discriminate against credit.
Edit: Jollysid....nice pic!

Well, let's face it. Minority groups generally fall under a lower income status, and along with that comes higher interest rates and lower credit scores. It's pretty obvious why they'd pay more.
I sure wish my car was newer

That study is a load of horseshit. And JX6, you're crazy. The kid said maybe the minorities would just pay it... the DID pay it. If they didn't there wouldn't have been a study.
Anyway, I highly doubt the dealers marked up the cars simply because of the skin color of the potential buyer. They mark up the cars in hopes to screw everyone. Any person can haggle with the price - regardless of race or anything else.
These people should feel silly for paying more - not crying racism and filing suit.
Past all of that, I want to see the FULL stats from that survey. A lot of times, younger blacks and latinos buy Hondas. I don't see many middle aged blacks or latinos driving any Hondas. Quite a few older whites buy Hondas (either for themselves or their kids). Older means more buying expierence and more patience. They'll haggle more and shop around more. They're less likely to wake up and go "I'm gonna buy a car today."
Without a ton of extra information that wasn't included in the article, I think it's irresponsible to make an allegation of racism.

even if it means you are taken advantage of. MAYBE those high rates were as low as they could get.(I'm not justifing minorities or anyone else being falling for this.)There wouldn't have been a study if someone didn't find this subject a point of interest. If minorities didn't buy Honda's there would be an investigation.(Most likely BY HONDA)Trust me.
Yeah,I'm crazy.

I don't know... my parents had decent credit the first time and they got a horrible rate on a car, the next time around they cleaned it up a little and they got a better rate.
I hope it's just based on credit ratings and dealer mark-ups...

Do you? Do they? They all buy BRAND NEW Hondas?
[QUOTE] Thanks. I was trying to say the amount financed may be more i.e. lower down payment. Studies show Black/Hispanic's have poorer credit than Whites, and Whites have poorer credit than Asians. These are facts. Where problems stem from are people that use these as a generalization. IMO we would be all better off if they didn't do inflammatory studies like this. There doesn't appear to be any real evidence to support their point. Studies done where the results are paid for are usually junk science.
