Gas Gauge Question.....
OK. I have an '03 Sedan EX that I have had for a little over a year now. I started driving it on the high way to work everyday in January. It seems like my gas needle floats ALOT. When the car hits higher speeds the needle seems to plummit. On a short drive I'll lose a 1/4 tank but then sometimes the needle will jump back to normal after its been sitting for a while and I start it up again. On the last 1/4 of a tank this can be REAL ANNOYING because the needle will drop down to the E and it seems like I have no gas. Has ANYONE experienced anything like this with their Vic? Maybe its inherent of the car or maybe mine sucks........the world may never know.
BTW....how many gallon tank is that thing?

Rep Power: 0 my needle is like that too. It could be a coinsidence, but i also have AC autotechnik gauges. Ever since I bought them they sometimes tend to fluctuate. not too badly, and only during the last quarter tank of gas. i just use the odometer to track how many miles, every time i fill up because i know that my car is always getting roughly 32/34mpg. This way, no matter what the needle says, i know exactly how much gas i have left in my tank.
And i 'think' it's a 10 gallon with a 1 gallon reserve. But not sure

Rep Power: 302 I have an 02 EX and it fluctuates ALL the time.. It's never really accurate.. I'll turn the car off with less than a 1/4 tank and when I turn it back on later, it's more than 1/4 tank! Floaty floaty!

our gas gauges simply suck, wherever or however the float is placed in the tank sucks cause it's never accurate

Rep Power: 0 same here. if the car is leaning towards the drivers side, there seems to be less gas. if its leaning towards the passenger side, there seems to be more gas. bleh.
the gas needle is actually very accurate, which is why is flucuates. It displays the amount of gas, depending on gas level at the sensor. However, most people don't like accurate sensors, they prefer the ones where the gas gauge drops consistantly, vs. accurately ;P
mm..its a 13.3 tank i think...maybe .2 i don't have the book w/ me. otherwise, mine floats....i get the gas light on and then i fill up..and only get like..9-10 gallans. so...i feel that i'm being had w/ that meter. but i think its a good thing that i don't fill up when its really at the end of the tank, thats a bad bad thing.

YES!!!! I have NEVER filled up more than 10 gallons.....even when the gas light is on. WHat the hell!! If our tanks are over 13 gallons, we are getting ripped off!!!!!!!!!

My needle just doesn't read when I put gas in. I drove home from Los Angeles to south Orange county approx. 75 miles and got gas at the beginning of the trip and my needle stayed burried 3/4 of the trip and the light stayed on, then it went up to half a tank. The next day when I got in the car the needle went to just under full tank....wierd.

Rep Power: 0 my car does the same thing 97 civic ex right now its dead on empty has been for a few days i just drive it like 8 miles a day (work) but anyways my gas light hasn't kicked on yet i am gonna see how far i can push it

Rep Power: 0 just get it filled up, don't be one of those ppl who CONSTANTLY drive it on practically empty, its pretty inaccurate but u know when the light turns on that u have about 3 gallons or at least 100 miles left depending on how you drive
