If you could build a Civic
I have a problem and I know you guys can help. If you could modify an 02 civic LX coupe what would you put on it?
My goals are to increase the air flow to the motor (non-turbo). Reduce the restictive flow of the stock exhaust..including the CAT. I want a good exhaust system but I don't want it to sound like a rice grinding fart can. What else would you suggest to make this car run more efficient and have more power.
What else would you do to make my car a sleeper. I don't want the mustangs at the light to know that he is about to get smoked...
There are a few more things that I want to do...shorten the shift through.
What do you all think? Any imput would be appreciated.

If you really want more power than you have 3 options, first lose the d17 engine and drop in a k20 engine, or turbo your d17, or build up the internals of your d17. Doing the I/H/E setup is good, but will only give you about 3-10HP if even that. Basically if you want your car to be a sleeper, drop in the k20, turbo it, Nitrous, internal build up, and then you will be smoking mustang cobras. But you better have some money for that. If you want to shorten your shift, get a short shifter.
K20's can be found on ebay, or directly through Acura. You can also find them in salvage yards, and most "tuner" shops can probably get you one. Expect to pay around $7,500 with installation and parts.
Turbo is gonna be a custom job because there arent any reputable "commercial" offerings. Expect around $5,000 for a decent setup.

I have not put any engine mods/bolt-ons in my vic due to the lack of boost it gives you and the poor luck most have had with bolt-ons, especially on this site. I don't have the money for a swap or turbo - I have just enough for I/H/E - but it's not worth it - I'm putting it into a new sound system instead - if I can't make it fast I might as well make it sound good and more fun to drive!

if ONLY i could modify an '02 LX coupe....alas, i have a sedan.
by definition, efficiency means being more concervative, being effective by using the LEAST amount of resources possible. that being said, there is no ammount of "mods" that you can add to your civic that will produce mustang whipping HP and still be fuel/cost/anything efficient.
if you have the money to do a k20 swap, it is beyond me why you decided to buy a civic in the first place. might as well have gone for something with more *****. your best bet would be a turbo, or laughing gas, depending on how much you want to spend.

With suspension modification, you'll get more out of the car per dollar Vs any engine mod....

I agree with ZzYzx...just do suspension mods and leave the engine stock.
Get some coilovers, rsx rear sway, new rims/tires, and maybe a front strut bar.
