after reading that i have a few comments. first, what kind of honda technician(s) cant properly install an oil filter? one of those most basic and easy tasks you can do.
and secondly.. maybe honda will change the location of the filters after this so theyre easier to change..

there has to be more to this than just techs not putting the filters on or it should be happening with other model years. Honda said they are investigating the matter so I am guessing something else might turn up, who knows.

Damn first they recall 1.1 million cars, wait.... Honda recalling more cars than GM?
, and now this.
"Honda is recalling over 1.1 million Accords, Acuras, Odyssey minivans, and Pilot and Acura SUVs. That's nearly 90% of the company's total annual U.S. sales for all of 2003 (1.35 million)! So relatively speaking, the magnitude of Honda's recall is about three times as significant as the numerically larger GM recalls that we wrote about here earlier this year." - From Biz.Yahoo.com
Where is Honda going now?
They better do something about it.

They better do something about it. You can also go to http://www.autozone.com They usually have all recall info too!
You just have to register on their site.

Actually, I work for Honda, so I can tell you exactly what is happening.
When you change the oil, every Honda spills its oil on down the motor. Unfortunately, the exhaust is close to this point, so oil spills on it. OIL BURNS. The vehicles catylitic converter is close to this point, so it heats it up very quickly and burns.
The blame is two fold. Change the filter properly. Make sure the old seal is off and wet the new seal with oil. Automotive 101. Nothing too tricky. Next clean up any oil spilled when you do the job. Two shop towels and you are done. It is not a recall, since not every one lights itself on fire after its first oil change. It happens mostly because the glue on the oil filter seal wears off on the factory filters. But again, this is the service techs job to check. Oil changes are so simple they let anyone do it. And mostly they do not care.
Sure, the cat should be further away.

Thing about this that worries me is that Honda is sometimes too proud. As the article says, they aren't going to warn their customers of this - only dealerships. When a customer changes their oil and their CRV starts on fire, whose fault is it if Honda knew there was something wrong.
I personally don't like any of the big 3, but at least they have experience with recalls and usually make a big stink about it rather than trying to keep it secret....
