Looking at an '01 Civic EX...
Greetings. My daughter is looking at an '01 Civic EX a friend of mine has for sale. I was wondering if there are any issues with the '01 that she should be aware of? At this point, it looks to be a good deal. It's a coupe...silver and black...just under 18K miles...and he's asking $11,500.
Thanks in advance for any info you can give me on the '01...

Yeah other than the struts and the rattling there isn't much else. There was a recall on a headlight switch.

18k miles on a 01 ex? wow. I bought mine back in Dec 00, have only driven it for a total of a year and a half, and still have almost 40k on mine!
As far as problems with the EX's, the only issue was a strut problem that was fixed under warranty, other than that, no other problems for me.

Keep in mind that the 2001 was the first model of the 7th gen and has the most problems. I'd stop by www.kbb.com and see what they say its worth in your area.
If it was me spending that amount of money, I'd seriously consider just buying a new car with a full warranty for peace of mind.

yo...........18K on 01?? that's very low!
yeah, just remember that 01 is the first line of 7thgencivic...and has most of the problems......
anyway, $11.500 is too high for an 01 civic.............18K miles though..........IMO IMO.

well, kelly blue book listed it at $10,500 (excellent condition/automatic) and $10,025 (excellent/manual) for my area. if you're considering it, you could always talk down to that price.
i personally haven't had any problems w/ my '01 and i practically live in my car (113,000 miles). only maintenace (aside from general) i had done was timing belt replaced (because it was time). other than that, i only changed my brake pads and plugs.
still running like a champ for me

sounds pretty good for the milage... talk it doesn a couple hundred bucks.
another thing... im sure youve thought of it, being the responsible subaru owner that you are... maybe ask for a reciepts and paper work on all the service work done. hopefully with only 11k, the owner took it to Honda. Also, I hope it's not been in any majore accidents too.

I had an 01 civic. I sold it last year. I had alot of problems with the car. Here is a list of problems that I had:
Drivers seat rocked back and forth....So Honda Replaced the bushings and the seat still rocked. Brought it back and they replaced the seat rails and the bushings...FIXED.
I had a rattling noice from inside the trunk, but nothing was loose.
Rattling noise from under the car...Don't know what it was.
Front Struts used to bang...Found out my front struts were defective, like most 01 civic's...Honda replaced on Warranty.
5 Speed Tranny on car stunk. Sometimes the car wouldnt go into second, and sometimes the car wouldnt go into 5th...and sometimes I couldnt downshift to 4th....and then finally forget about putting it in reverse.
I have owned 4 Honda's in my time...and The 01 civic was the worst Honda that I ever purchased. If I was you I would steer clear of the 01, even if it has 18k miles. I would recommend a 2002 and up if you are going to get a civic....Or try looking at Toyota. The corolla is a much nicer car...Plus it is built much better and the reliability and build quality is 100 percent better.

I still have my 2K1
1) 3 alternators
2) 2 A/C compressors
3) 3 sets of struts
4) IAC valve
5) 3 gears on tranny replaced
6) gas cap failed emissions test
ya, that about covers it.

I have an 01 Civic LX 5 speed sedan - has over 95,000 miles. The front struts were replaced not too long ago - still have a clunking noise in the front end somewhere. Everything else has been reliable. The 01 will have more issues but like mentioned above it is a first year model.
If I had to do it again I would have waited and bought an 03 EX coupe. Still the price you mentioned for the 01 EX is good - if it were on a Honda lot it would be a LOT more! He may even take less? Good luck!

Wow. Lots of replys. Thanks...
We took the car for a drive last night. Talked him down to $11K, but he wouldn't go any lower. And, I don't blame him. The car is spotless. No door dings. Nothing. The car belonged to one of my co-worker's girlfriends. She was here on a student visa while she was getting her degree. She has since returned to Taiwan...which is why the car's for sale. I'll have to ask my friend if she had any service work done...recalls, tech bulletins, etc. I do know the rear bumper cover has been replaced. She got bumped at a stoplight. Minor cosmetic damage...no structural damage. But, the other driver's insurance company replaced the bumper cover, anwyay. All service work on the car was done at a Honda dealer.
I checked the N.A.D.A. website, and they showed $12,500 on the high end, and $10,500 on the low end. So, I think it's a good enough deal to go through with. Thanks for all the comments, guys. I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes by.
