are civics really that slow?

I think the power is decent, but a little more in the midrange couldn't hurt. A .1L increase isn't really noticeable (from last gen Civics). The Civic was once known for being extremely light, high-highrevving, great handling, value-packed and and still got great gas-mileage. The current Civic isn't as great as some of it's competition. The only thing that still is true about the Civic is that it gets great gas-mileage.

think of it this way, ex cost around 17,000. Spend around $2300.00 I/H/E and NOS 50 shot. you get your car in to the 14's in 1/4 mile. Spend $3200.00 this would be the turbo kit SF. You can get your car into the 13's 1/4 Mile. In the civic the Auto civic is the only slow civic. 7thgen that is.
I still don't get this whole "lets hop up the econo-box" deal. As a new civic owner, I got the car (a VP even) b/c I could get one that was stripped, had a 5 speed, handled well, and got GREAT gas mileage. Had I been rich, I would have purchased a ZO6 corvette. You CAN make a civic handle like a ZO6 or have one outrun it down the strip, but I doubt at the same time, and if you could it would cost more that the ZO6 and the vette'll look 100x better. Plus you have to worry about things that the vette guys accounted for (FWD traction, cracking subframes, little engines, the list goes on...)

why did u even join this site..
where is the fun in "setteling" with a car.. the fun is customizing it.. doing your own work. making it your car.. everyone has a mustang conertible or a vette. there all over the road.. how many 01 ex civics with a phat body kit, 18 konigs, and custom exhaust. the point is to make it your car. how many of those cars do u have in your city. the civic i described.. now how many vettes and stangs do u have.. adding performance and speed is just another way of making it your..
but a person like yourself just doenst understand huh?

spend 17k on a 58,000 mile e36 M3 and you're hittin 14's flat N/A......hmmm and thats only straight line performence, not what this car was really born for. Twisties are my friend

I'm not here to brag or anything just giving input.

I fully agree. It just sucks when you can't pass them on the straights after you been held back through out a whole lap cause your not allow to pass on turns in open track days.
example:
two sundays ago. i was racing at Streets of Willow, 14 turns, very tight track. i was stuck behind a AUTOWORLD RSX-S(small magazine shop car). when we got to the short straight away, he gave me a wave so that i can pass him. he lifted his throttle a bit and i was on full throttle. I couldn't even get to his rear bumper. so he gave me a wave by on one of the sweepers so i can pass him.
can't wait til i get my front clip, k20a, next year. or when i race my friend's rx-7(FC with FD motor, about 450hp on full boost).
i truly believe in racing with low horsepower cars for the first few years. this way, you have to do your best not to screw up on the turns so that you don't lose any speed coming out of the turns. once you get the skills to race a low horsepower car to its full potential, i believe u can rock anyone with a higher horsepower car
I'm very happy with the genereal power I have found and lost many many times.
tunning your car give you insite on how it work's and figuring out there combo's for everything takes time I've had my car now for like 2 month's and just now I'm starting to f*ck around with spark advance setting's. adn dude no said it's easy or it should be hard it what you want it to be (pachent's pay off) sometimes at least. It's the 4 fourth time I re-adjust my timing and I still see differences every time ( not major ) but the way I like the car to respond to suden accel or braking I want it to do it my style and I'm still haven't found it yet and yeah money help's but hey it's all part of being a tunner. and ya ppl blow engine and other's fly by but hey to each there own. I think I went way off topic ???? PEACE.

lol. its an econo car. its 1.7 liter. actually barely. its 1664cc.. hardly a .1 liter increase from last gen.
they should have thrown in the 1.8 sohc at least... thats like 133 hp.
its also a car from a company that stress more on mileage and enviornment.
I guess threads like this wont go away. its just like back then when i remember other highschool kids thinks a Civic is fast.. lol. but thats cuz thats the only car they were exposed too.. or at least in my particular area.. which is quite sad.. most people realize sooner or later that a civic is a 14,000 economy coupe/sedan, not a sports car.
unfortunately some people find out later after they buy the car.

I think Honda messed up with my car. It only gets 22mpg on average, so it's not an economy car. It's not very fast, and the tranny sometimes gets crazy, so I don't know what it's supposed to be. What's below ecomony? I think the onlky thing it has going is the environment stuff.

i dont know anyone who would turn down a beer. whats your point.. that American cars are better, or that more expensive cars are better then cheaper ones. The point is making it your own. like i've said so many time. a body kit and rims is too broad. think of the millions of combanations you can create with all the different companys and styles of kits/wings/rims/tires/lights.amps/speaker/ground effects/suspension so on and fo forth. ya ricers are abundent in some places. but i see 5 mustangs for every 1 ricer. and thats the truth

I totally agree. The civic was never meant to be a monster from the factory (most cars weren't meant to be), but it is a very agile car with good potential depending on money and driving skill.
